Marsh Island bayou questions?

How is the fishing in those bayous that go inside marsh island?

I dont know anything about these bayous.
please share you experience when venturing into these areas.

How far can you go inside these bayous and Is there anything to worry about when going into these bayous.

The easy bayou to fish is bird island bayou, the game warden camp,is at the entrance, follow the bends in the bayou, there are some weirs back there that are good for crabing and cast netting for shrimp. In the winter there are some deep, holes for red fish.

Use your trolling motor in the smaller canals until you learn the area most of those canal can get very shallow fast. Usually I would just troll and cast until we get on the reds and limit out.

Fishing is not too bad back there. I've had the pleasure of sitting out there a few times and fishing. You can definitely catch them out there. Don't remember what we caught on, but I think all I ever brought was gulp.

Winter time the canals are good....summer I find the lakes to be better. But most of the time you never need to go inside. The whole north shoreline is great fishing. Just fish any points and drains. Learning the area I suggest idle or use trolling motor in areas your not sure of.The island can go from 12 foot to mud in a hurry.

You are right about being shallow fast. We always fish the inside but this year thinking about fishing the east side of marsh island around the banks. Ever tried fishing the east side ?

There is a couple of points to the east of Bird Island, that are especially hot for Reds when a West Wind is blowing. 'Aucoin Bayou'!

I like traps but the last fews years been using the manns mid minus 1 crankbait. It is bulky and only dives 1 foot. That area had some grass islands out there years ago that washed away. Now they have a shell bottom. Won't give up those spots though. :D

Seem like the small reds are at those rock and shoreline by the game warrent camp. Always had luck inside the island for bigger reds
