electric filet knife
 

My American angler filet knife crapped out on my last night. It was a great knife that lasted around 5 years. I was looking online this morning to replace it, and the new ones cost $110! Has anybody tried one off the new expensive models? It's it worth it?

Everyone says to use the electric black n decker knife (not in fishing section), I prefer to use a few manual knifes depending on the type of fish.

I hear good things about the hamilton beach. I personally use manual knives

I have one and probably will not buy another one.

I don't like the "trigger". You must pull the trigger back toward the butt of the handle....not just squeeze like most elect knives.

Also the motor gets hot when cleaning a bunch of Trout. The first time I used it, I had to stop cleaning fish. I could not hold it because it was so hot.

I don't use it on Red's.

Bubba Blade 9" flex = I am faster cleaning a limit of specks,reds and bass. No mess, No cord, use same knife to rib out and cut out red meat. And I never have to worry about burning up another electric. Bubba Blade = 2 years and a lot of fish cleaned. Electric knife = 4 burned up in 2 years.

ive never cleaned a fish with a fixed blade ever.... im pretty fast with an electric tho. i use the green mister twister... works great. usually last a couple years... only 20bux

The hardest part to learn with the Bubba Blade is to hold back and stop at tail to flip and skin out, it cuts through ribs of reds and specks like butter but then you have to hold back. If i have a lot of fish to clean I don't let anyone get on my right side and just cut all the way through flip and again all the way then skin out, its very fast.

I have found the electric knives made for cleaning fish are underpowered and usually don't last long.

when you buy one get a regular electric carving knife because they are made to handle bigger cuts and will last longer.

I agree the GE and Hamilton beach ones get way too hot to hold after around 20-25 fish, they aren't made to handle non-stop continued use. you have to take a break to let it cool off but I had a lot to clean and it was late so I failed to do this once and wrapped a towel on it so I could hold it and I burned the motor up just as I finished two limits of reds and 50 trout.

I've used a Hamilton beach for years and it definitely does the job. Burn out Mr. Twisters.Been curious about using the Bubba Blade esp. for reds, drum, & sheeps.

samurai sword works good, just kidding, I use dexter for trout, I filet as fast with it as I do with a electric, but I get better looking filets when I use a non electric.

I have new (year old) American Angler and have used it with great success so far. If you let the blade do the work and don't force it, the knife blades go through bone and skin like a hot knife through butter. Blades are insanely sharp, motor does not get hot, and you can clean fish for an hour without loss of power or efficiency. I would recommend it, however, I haven't tried it on Tuna, Amberjack, or Sanpper yet; but for inshore species and freshwater fish, it is really good.

I use the Mister Twister pirahna with the blades that come with the green\yellow one as I'm usually cleaning catfish. Works good for me and is going on 3 years old.

I use American Anglers and have cleaned thousands of trout with them. After the blades get dull I use a Worksharp to sharpen. You can buy 10 cheap knives in 5 years or you can buy one. American Angler is the best I have ever used.

I've used Mister Twister for years now and have manged to get 3 to 4 years out each one, I may have to try an American Angler next time.

keep the package and return for a new one every so often lol

I went with the american angler pro model. $80 but it hss the most powerful motor I've seen on an electric knife. Hope it lasts long enough to justify the price tag. But I used it sat. on some drum and sheephead we caught at the jetties and it ran through them like butter. So far so good. BTW....the new pro model is quite a bit different than the older ones. I like it better
