Beautiful.

They are beautiful birds but when I duck hunted I avoided them things like the plague. Perhaps I just didn't know how to cook them. Tried once and after that they were avoided.

I think they are awesome looking in full plume.

I have cooked many. One I remember tasted horrible but every other one, has tasted just as good as any other in my book

If you pluck the breast and it's red throw it away. If it's yellow it will be good to eat.

I've always wanted to have one mounted they are very pretty birds, as for eating them...they aren't my targeted species but I wont pass them up on a slow day...really just depends on where they have been feeding..

I got a drake in my freezer I want to get mounted, I just need to drop it off somewhere. Its back is almost completely white.

Just skin the red/pink fat ones and they are good, or breast them and take the legs. Spoonies have big gizzards too. my motto is: If it flies like a duck, it dies like a duck. Coots don't normally seem to fly like a duck to me. Merganzers don't look very ducky to me either. I met a dude in the refuge who had several merganzers in his bag so I asked him how they tasted. He said he soaks the breasts in orange juice in the refrigerator for a couple of days. Then he fries them and he said they were pretty good. Hooded merganzer drakes and black bellied tree ducks are kinda ugly, pretty. Tree ducks are very good to eat.

My plan is to eventually have at least one of all ducks on the wall

Just cooked a gumbo with spoons & woodys; the spoons were better tasting.
Also, the Blue Wing Teal is a close relative of the Spoon Bill

That as fine a Tenny Shoe Mallard as I have ever seen.
