New to VB

I am new to the V Bay Area and would like to head out to Marsh Island. I hear about all the reefs in the area and would not want run upon one of those bad boys! I downloaded Navionics app hoping that it would locate them but it doesn't.... Any help is much appreciated! Thanks fellas

Inside marsh island? If so in the main canal stay right of those cane pole. The left shallow, just drive slow and you will be fine

Heading south "to" the island there is really no lower unit killers (reef) to look out for....an occasional crab trap is another story. Now going through the pass and navigating the reef in gulf can be challenging without a depth finder. If you do venture through the pass (Southwest Pass), remember to keep green navigational markers to your right travel south through pass and Red Right Return (RRR) traveling north.

Hoaward or anyone, just looking to get to the worm or redfish point. Do I have to worry about any reefs on the run out there if I take off from Cyp. Point?

Only thing you got to watch out for is those darn crab traps, to get to redfish point or fish the west side of the bay launching at intercostal is a faster run

jonathonv 09-05-2013 09:27 PM

Cyp point to redfish point is a pretty long haul

Montauk17 09-05-2013 09:29 PM

Oyster lake is one big reef with shallow spots....also oyster bayou twards the end where it meets the gulf has some reefs. Worm bayou also has a few spots to watch for. Bayou michael is full of reefs....there is several spots to watch for in the island. I would go with someone that knows the area if you want to explore off the beaten path.

If I were to launch out of intracoastal to go to redfish point, where should I put in at?

Are you talking about the launch adjacent to Maxie Pierce Grocery Store off of Hwy. 333?

budndawn 09-06-2013 10:07 AM

That's the one

One thing for sure, that place is hit and miss, do not give up, and befriend some dudes and gals, that will put you on fish quicker than anything else. Most are very hush about fishin spots around here. It takes some time to learn. Google Earth and Flash Earth have been must best ally in findn some spots.

yep...delcambre and Avery canal...both are good for reds and flounders..

DuckSlayer22 09-06-2013 02:13 PM

Speck, are there any obstructions crossing Weeks Bay from Sharks Bayou to the Delcambre Canal? Or would putting in at the Delcambre launch be better?
