Tarpon making comeback in SWLA?
Have a buddy swear to me that he caught a baby tarpon down in Grand Chenier last weekend. I think he had too much Miller light. But anyways...
It'd be sweet if they could make a comeback in this area. I know they used to catch them in Big lake waaaay back in the day. Thoughts? Anyone else spot one lately? |
bet it was a large lady fish!
|
Thats what I said, but he said it had large scales (like redfish) & tarpon have.
|
Them are some beast fish...I'd do anything to catch a tarpon
|
My wife says Ladyfish are the "poor man's Tarpon". They fight and jump like Tarpon.
|
I caught a 14" tarpon at the Grand Isle Bridge over the summer it took me a second to realize what it was...

Giant Ladyfish or Tarpen
I have heard of people hooking them on Big Lake.
But, I didnt realize how big lady fish got until I went on the Chandeleur Trip; these fish could eat the Ladyfish you catch @ Ensco 56. |
i saw some 100+ pound tarpon busting bait about 1 mile east of the grand chenier jetties about 10 years ago
they used to catch tarpon in prien lake too |
