Family Trip

Bro and dad are coming down next week for 3 days of fishing and nonsense. We will be hitting the beach, and my few quiet little roadside spots in search of a cooler full each day. Regarding the fishing stuff, I'm confident enough in our ability to get out there and sling a few in. With the time I have, I really want to branch out a bit. I'm planning on playing with some different techniques, like double rigging for trout, top water, and drop shot rigs. My two questions are, what kind of soft plastics do you find work well on jigheads? I'm planning on running a 1/4 oz. on top, and a 3/8 oz. on bottom.

My second question is, if we are staying in Hackberry, is there a roadside spot within an hour to castnet for shrimp? Dad would get a real kick out of that. Ok, so would I. Feel free to private message me if you'd like. I've had a little luck catching some bait shrimp near Deep Bayou, but would like to make this a trip these guys won't forget!

But you're all good if you head west on 82 toward Texas, right?

Let me rephrase my initial question on shrimping. Is it possible to catch shrimp in the surf between Holly Beach and the Texas line? A local told me a couple months back that some guys were catching a decent amount of 16-20 count at night on Holly Beach using a cast net and a spotlight? Does a spotlight help? Is it legal? Does this story sound even sort of true? Again, I'm never pushing for all the deep dark secrets, just trying to get pointed in the right direction.
