Bayou Patout

I know the rules pics or it didn't happen but oh well....fished bayou patout and the surrounding canals from sunrise till the rain came around noon. Fished any drain dumping into the main bayous on a falling tide. Ended up with 10 blue cats 5-15 pounds and 4 perfect grilling size redfish. Filled a 90 quart ice chest jammed tight. Caught em on a carolina rig 3/4 oz sinker with cut mullet and cut lady fish. Grandparents were happy to see fresh catfish for the freezer. Didn't see another boat in the spots I was fishing, was a nice morning on the water. Burned 2 gallons of gas in the boat, can't beat dat.

Is there a lot of bait out there to cast net? I'll be going next weekend somewhere in the bay and if I have to take my boat I'll be limited to sheltered water unless no wind. Was thinking patout or the Boston

No shortage of bait that's for sure. Reds and cats were really eating up cut lady fish I caught in the cast net.

wishin i was fishin 08-25-2013 05:57 PM

dang man, I got there just before noon. Ran all over weeks bay scouting and running from showers until around 4. Caught 2 fish. Still had alot of fun though.

Montauk17 08-25-2013 08:05 PM

I am guilty of doing the same...running around when you run over fish to find fish. Sometimes you just gotta wait em out. They didn't start biting good till 10 when the tide was rolling.

jopete 08-25-2013 08:47 PM

that aea is funny, sometimes the fish are stacked up in one canal, sometimes they are all over. nice catch!

wishin i was fishin 08-25-2013 08:49 PM

Yeah, I think how many fish I have passed up when I run to the pass every time. But that is part of what i love about fishing.

I just love being on the water, catching fish is an added bonus.

I launch there 90% of the time when i make afternoon trips and i talked to a guy fishing off the bank he said he had 6 reds casting the grass line with small pogey, I didn't ask but i assume he had 1 over his limit and sounded like he was gonna keep fishing till dark but I've caught reds all up and down Patout
