11/1/09 Lake P

Today turned out to be a better day than I expected.

I woke up at 5 this morning to winds blowing hard out of the north. I thought for sure I was going to get blown out. I decided to go anyway and stick it out as long as I could. Got to Bonnabel at 6 and sure enough, it's pretty choppy. I rode out to the 8 mile hump of the Causeway and started working the bridge legs. I only managed to catch 2 trout at the turn around. I picked up and pounded my way to the northshore for calmer and cleaner water.

At the 16 mile hump, the water was much cleaner. It was a little after 8 then and the wind decides to quit blowing. Can't ask for better! I was able to work the legs really good and get on a good bite. The bigger trout were hungry this morning... and so were the puppy drum! I must have caught and released 25-30 drum in between the specks. I've never caught black drum like that on the Causeway. When the water quit moving, the trout bite died. All the fish today were caught with either Blue Moon or Copperhead Dudleys on 1/2 oz jigheads.

Finished off the day with 13 nice trout. My cheap, knock-off boga had the biggest one right at 4 lbs.

Just to give you and idea of the size of the fish, the dink trout in the middle of the first pic is 14".

Very nice. Can't gripe about a catch like this.

Lake p/ Nice Catch

Was down on the lake last night and wondered about those that had said they were launching at bonabel this am. It was not as bad as i thought last night. BTW them drum you are throwing back are better than reds IMO.

I only threw them back because I'm too lazy to clean them!

From the BONNABEL landing we only ran out about 10-11 miles North at the most.

fishinpox 11-01-2009 06:03 PM

we fished like out 5 miles from the south then to the 8 mile then the farthest was about 10 mile out from the south . i lost prolly 3-4 nice fish set the hook on one and it didnt even move just pulled out drag!!! and then it spit it. did catch a 15 lb red . how far yall went??

YellaBlazer 11-01-2009 06:06 PM

I was by myself this morning. I think I passed by you guys early in the AM. I was in a bright yellow Blazer Bay.

I spent the majority of the day about 8 miles from the north shore. The water closer in was nasty.

fishinpox 11-01-2009 06:08 PM

the water around 8 from the south was nice . was there alot of people out there ( north) today?? we were all by our selves

YellaBlazer 11-01-2009 06:10 PM

I had plenty company, but everybody was courteous this morning. Didn't have to break out the paintball gun...

fishinpox 11-01-2009 06:11 PM

yall fish the middle , east or wast side of the bridges?? we caught most of the big ones on the west side when the water was still moving but scattered when it slowed down
