Good idea but I wish they hadn't decided to put it in the cove... Now it will really be jam packed with boats...

Montauk17 07-10-2013 12:54 PM

Just saw this on facebook. Good for small boaters and kayaks....the crowds it will attract will lighten up other spots. Will be a good spot to fish at night. :D

A shame all those with 40K and up boats will be put out like that...

tight!! The bay can use some more good reefs! I wish the CCA would have tried to save the islands where the trash pile is. That used to be one of my favorite spots

I agree with you on that.....crazy how fast they went away. Been a while since I fished that area...how deep is it now where the islands were?

about 3-4 foot mostly, 2 years ago they had a 1-2' area, but I doubt if its still that shallow there. Dad and I caught some big trout over it too!

I try to stay away from that area because of the crowds but I have caught good there before they sunk. Was a good flounder spot too.

Awesome way to commemorate two great people that were taken too soon.

Way to Go

I think this is great news for the Verm Bay area. Looking at the map, it's not really in the "COVE", it looks closer to Blue Point, which is better than putting it in the cove. IMO.

I'm glad I didn't pay that much for my boat so I'm in good shape...

Jrchip1 07-10-2013 04:45 PM

There's soo much stuff they could use to make reefs, but it's the liability of boat wrecks, etc that they're very restrictive about what they put out and where. No to mention trying to get permission from the EPA...jeese. All these rigs and bridges they're cutting up, concrete etc, would make great reef material.

Only bad thing is the gumbo mud in vbay it will silt over much quicker compared to say big lake.

That"s like putting a reef in the middle of the intersection of Johnston and Ambassador Caffery! I'd rather see it just north of Blue Point. But It's a good start.

flounder_smacker 07-10-2013 09:17 PM

There used to be a good sized reef right there. It's still there but small. I guess they are trying to build it back.

gonna be a tackle stealer for sure!!
