Redfish rod and must have lures
 

I need rod/reel recommendations and 4-5 must have lures...thanks

What's you price range? A few baits that work pretty good for reds are spinnerbaits and jigheads with gulp.

Not too concerned about money...well i mean nothing too outrageous. Just want good solid baitcaster i can use for reds and bass. Ive got a few spinning reels so im good on that end i think

What weight spinners and jigs do you normally use? what kind gulp?

Shimano Chronarch 200 e7 reel, power pro braided line, rod shouldn't matter just make sure it has a good backbone. The reel will run you about 200$ but from experience it is very well built with great cast-ability.

I use shimano curado 200e which is same as new chronarch and Duce rod and "I" like that. Different people prefer different rods and reels though. For reds and bass I'd pick a med heavy. The h2o academy reels are really good for the price and they have a lifetime warranty no questions asked. For spinners the h&h setups with the sparkle beetle or cocahoe work good and I believe they like a 1/4 oz. 1/4 would be good for the jigs and just a gulp shrimp would be good.

looks like a new shimano reel is in my future...rod is still up in the air at the moment...thanks for the recs so far...hoping to do some shopping tomoro to get ready for saturday morning

I love both my Chronarch and Lews tournament pro reels. Shimano Crucial rod. Spinnerbaits. Gold spoons and gulp swimming mullet. They will eat pretty much anything. I've caught them good on crank baits and plastic worms for bass. ( the love senkos) but can't beat a chartreause swimming mullet.

I have a couple H20 Mettle Express from Academy that I really like. I don't fish a lot so I'm not spending $200 on a rod/reel combo to use 5-6 times a year.

Must have Redfish baits...

1. Johnson Gold Spoon "weedless wonder" thrown over grass beds
2. Baby Minus in blue and chrome, thrown around deeper grass beds
3. H&H redfish Rig with a black charteuse soft plastic can throw around structure
4. Jig head under a popping cork with a shrimp on it or you can fish it on the bottom to fish cuts in the marsh
5. a drop shot rig tipped with a cracked crab for bull reds to fish deeper passes or off the beach

Shimano cumara rod in medium is as good as it gets. Plus unlike the previous mentioned options they will replace it for life no questions asked.

Johnson Gold Spoon.....Hard to beat this for catching Red's. Get the 3/4 oz size so you can throw it a mile if needed or if the wind is blowing.

Spinner baits are a close second choice. Get the H & H brand baits because you can change the jig heads and they are made from heavy wire that holds up good when catching Reds. They usually cost under $ 2 at Walmart or Academy.

For a mid priced production rod its hard to beat shimano for quality and the lifetime over the counter warranty. The only other rods I own are 1 st croix, 1 H&H, and 1 kistler

I agree, nothing beats a gold spoon on top of Brackish water grass beds for redfish. I normally fish the 1/2 oz spoon.

One thing about the gold spoon is that you have to reel it relatively fast.

We use Bomber Who Dat spoons and pretty much anything else that can be rigged weedless. I find the Who Dat spoons have a much better action and works better in thick grass than the regular spoons.

I use a 7ft Duce Med-Heavy with an Abu Garcia Revo SX (11 bearing) and I like it alot. Casts a mile with some 20-30lb braid on there. Weapons of choice are:
1. Redfish Magic Spinner
2. Strike Pro Hunchback (bone/chart)
3. Gold Mullet Skitterwalk
4. 1/4 jighead with a chart curl tail gulp
5. Glow Tsunami Swim Shad

Not saying these are the best or that I'm an amazing fisherman, but they work for me. Good luck!

Also, a gold spoon of course... I don't use those much because they're not as fun to work. IMO. Still a great weapon!

Tidal Surge "The Thing" in gold glitter is a killer redfish lure. Looks flashy like a god spoon but has the thump of two paddle tails.
