What's the best way to....

Ok. Here we go again. What's the best way to get live croaker. I've heard buy. I've heard cast net. And I've heard nose up to any shrimp boat and politely ask. Let's here it.

buy em at the marina is the most consistent way...Depends on where youre fishing though. The only shrimp boats that are gonna have live croaker are the ones that just pulled up nets of the ones that sell em for bait

I prefer to castnet mine. I normally catch a few when im catching shrimp. Pogie is the best bait for big trout unless all they want is croaker

I'm thinking I might try the cast net next time out. Most likely will take the meaux route though. I need to hone my castanet skills

What do y'all look for when you cast net??? I know the obvious mullet on top of the water but what else tips you for where to throw???

Moving water

Moving water is important. Also just watch for bait. Falling tide out of a marsh drain is excellent. Also deep holes next to shallow flats work well.

Any tips on keepin those bad boys alive? Supposedly there is some chemical that you clean your live with that takes the toxins out of it. Please advise

sacalaitman 06-15-2013 06:45 PM

Dont overcrowd them. Thats the best advice I can give. Also make sure the water gets changed frequently. If you have a livewell like mine it can recirculate or have steady fresh water.
