Capt. Lance Walker is a Louisiana born-and-bred captain who approaches his job with relentless passion and determination, and his hard charging style has earned him the nickname “Fish Commander”. Operating out of Grand Isle, Louisiana, Capt. Walker’s Fish Commander Guide Service is the top option for the area’s excellent bluewater fishing.

Coastal Louisiana offers some of the best offshore fishing in the world and there is no shortage of variety, but most of Fish Commander’s charter trips focus on the plentiful yellowfin tuna. Capt. Walker employs a variety of methods depending on conditions, including chunking, drifting live bait, trolling and kite fishing. Much of the action is off the abundant offshore oil rigs in the area but in the winter months Capt. Walker frequents the famed “Midnight Lump”, a salt dome just a short run from Grand Isle that is commonly visited by giant 150+ lb yellowfin tuna.

In addition to tuna, Fish Commander also encounters pelagics including marlin, dorado, and wahoo with regularity, and the bottom fishing is typically fast-and-furious for amberjack and red snapper. Regardless of primary target, most trips end up with a mix bag which may also include cobia (known locally as “lemon fish”), mangrove snapper, and grouper.

Capt. Walker pilots a 32’ Twin Vee “On the Prowl” which boasts a wide beam and catamaran hull that is perfectly suited for fishing in the Gulf of Mexico’s often choppy seas. Two primary types of trips are available – 12+-hour bluewater excursions, and overnight trips which allow anglers to target big tuna at oil platforms up to 100 miles offshore.

Grand Isle is friendly beach town with plenty of restaurants and house rentals to allow for a pleasant stay, but Red Tuna members will want to go for the bluewater fishing, which is truly some of the best in the world. If you have the opportunity to visit Grand Isle, make sure your trip includes a few days (or nights) fishing with Capt. Lance Walker and Fish Commander Guide Service!
