Power Pole opinions?

Hey guys, I would appreciate your feedback on power poles. Which one is better? I'm guessing you get what you pay for so with that in mind, the pro series 2 must be best. But is the sportsman trash? Just checking to see y'alls experience with these. I'm thinking of getting one. Or maybe a Talon? Thanks for your help.

What Bob said!

I have the Talon, and will NOT get another one.
Too noisey. Goes into the mud good, but hard to get back out of the mud. Not enough power.

The sportsman 2 comes with the wireless dash switch and wireless remote. For not much more you can get the pro that has a stronger mount.

get the 10' blade.. if you think your going to hold in 6' of water with an 8', you'd be wrong on some days. I've used ours in 6' and if there is wind and waves, you can have trouble holding, now if there is little wind and what not 8' will hold you. Wish I would have gotten the 10'

Get 2 of 'em!

Go with 2 you won't regret it

I had a Talon as well, it was junk and went back to the shop three times before I finally got a new boat. Ray is right they are noisy. I have a 10ft blade power pole now and love it.

As stated above with the rest, i had a talon, it worked and held nice, but noise and sudden deployment were not that great, havent decided to put another one on or wait for the nee rig in the fall, but it will be a power pole hands down....does anyone have the demensions of the pump itself....

SaltyShaw 03-19-2013 11:25 PM

New pumps are tiny like it could fit in a 14"x14"x14" Box with room to spare

I think that might fit in my lil storage compartment in the back, the only place i can put it...

The response is pretty overwhelming for power pole. Pro series too I guess. I'll start saving my nickels now! Sounds like the Talon would be a bad choice, although I like the idea of electric over hydro. Thanks for the input y'all.

Power pole the only one to buy 8' good 10' better

kyle35 03-20-2013 07:57 PM

10' Blade all the way.

david79thomas 03-20-2013 08:03 PM

I didn't want 10' because of the height when they're in stowed position. I got 8 instead. I should still be ok in most waters down here

Never broke yet, but have to carry a 7/16 wrench to get out of hard mud or shell or you have to crank it up and power out of mud. It holds good, just too much noise. Noise carries real loud under water. Its touch cause I power out a lot.
I got a good deal for the HT tournament couple years ago. But it ain't as good as I thought I was getting after installing and using it.

RedXCross 03-20-2013 09:11 PM

I had a Talon, and it is in 45' of water if ya want it. LOL, A lil windy on the Big Pond and she decided to break and fly away breaking all Power wires and all,The mount gave way to a Hairline crack, The Blade or Pro 2 is a lot less drag on your boat too. That Talon was like sailing a 5 gallon bucket. IMO and now I have a Red Blade oredered.

BigAl 03-20-2013 09:32 PM

My Uncle has a Talon and I agree with the noise issue. He also had it go out after owning it for about 6 months. Took it to a dealer, the dealer tried to take it apart and started breaking bolt heads off, so he sent it to Minn Kota. They sent him back a brand new one. The dealer said he needed to take better care of it, like cleaning it after every use up inside where the spike retracts. Sounds like a PITA to me. Is all that necessary with the power pole? With the design, I can't see that it would be. Maybe grease the pivot points?
