Night shift

Been working the night shift at work for the last few months and I just cannot get used to it. Get home around 6 am and might sleep for 3-4 hours and cannot sleep anymore. Starting to feel like a zombie....anyone else work at night and had the same problem?

Micah 02-19-2013 02:42 PM

Yep. Try and make your room as dark as possible. Black it out if you can.

FF_T_Warren 02-19-2013 02:42 PM

Yea my problem isn't the not sleeping, it's sleeping too much

Finfeatherfur 02-19-2013 02:42 PM

I work full time Mon - Fri in Lafayette and put in an average of 16-20hrs a week at night/weekends in a POPO uniform. Get something to darken the windows in your bedroom and adjacent room as much as possible. We have shades and drapes, been when I pull a few night shifts in a row, my wife hangs blankets or towels to insure it is pitch black.

That will help. Also adjust your meal times so that you eat a meal, a few hours before you go to bed. I am fortunate and can sleep anytime I need to, but some days I do get up after only 3-4 hours. Good luck!

if you don't already, try and get to bed as soon as you get home. it always helped me to get to sleep before the sun got up. also...Nyquil helps!!!

Sleep

Melatonin 3 mg is a great over the counter sleep aid. Try it a few times to break that cycle of sleep deprivation.

jbert22 02-19-2013 05:22 PM

Like said before. Get home and drink a couple beers. Sleep like a baby. Least it works for me!

FF_T_Warren 02-19-2013 08:32 PM

Chewable melatonin works pretty good. Way better than pills

budndawn 02-19-2013 08:37 PM

When I was on nights I would get home in the morning and not stop. I'd go fishing or get some work done in the shop. I would go to bed abt 8 hours before having to go back to work, get 6 hours and wake up and get ready for work.

I usually go to bed right when i get home around 0630. Sleep till around noon or so. I dont take anything , but never really had a problem sleeping. You just get used to it. Usually after my last dog ill stay up all day so i can sleep that night

I had 2000acs. Of corn to bail last year. Had to bail at night. First few nights killed me cause it was 8 to 8 and then had to get in the cutter till noon two a clock. Got to where I would stop bailing at 8 am. And cut or drink beer till 11am. Noon at the latest, eat a big meal and pass out till 730 pm. When it was time to start over. Oh and bty. Coors light is the only way to go.!!!!
