Sacs anyone?
Just cleaned the shotguns and pulled out the fishing rods. Thinking about some sacs this week. Is Lake Martin all screwed up from the past rains? Should be getting right about now. Any info would be appreciated. Maybe even the Stephensville area might be worth a trip.

Should be getting right at lake martin.....would be best to go thursday or friday before the next front. Use a clear tube jig a foot under a cork, they love that color in lake martin. Sometimes they are on the cypress but I do better dropping it in holes in the lilly pad mats. The basin gunna be messed up till the water drops, maybe fausse point would be decent along the levy pits. Upper flat lake will be getting good soon but still a little early for that area in my opinion.

X2 on clear jigs we smoked em on dem last eeeaaarly spring on cypress knee piles and structures near drop off by lookout tower. I was thinking of doing the same this afternoon just to check it out.

Was gunna keep it to myself but those clear jigs work even better dipped in troose spike it tipped with a crappie nibble or even better a grass shrimp. :D

Thanks for all that info guys! Its been awhile since i fished Sacs in Lake Martin. Always fished for bream there in the spring. I dyn' for fresh fried fish! Gonna give it a shot Friday looks like.

Sure thing....personally I can't wait for the basin to drop late spring into the summer. I always catch more and bigger slabs during that time. Some fresh fried sacs sure would be goood though.

Gotta catch em live....use a dip net with very small holes. The ditches along lake martin rd usually got em.

I don't mind helping....now giving exact locations to honey holes is a different story. ;)

10 foot and falling at butte la rose is a good starting point. I went to henderson sunday for a few hours after hunting....the pits north of the interstate had decent water clarity. Caught 3 bass and about 10 huge choo choo piqs on a black n red pit boss, they ugly but fun to catch.

I agree butte la rose canal clears up first....have not been there in a while might be worth checking out. I don't mind muddy water sometimes it holds more fish....muddy water warms up quicker.

When fishing Lake Martin for Sacks......If fishing the cypress trees and lilly pad don't produce, try fishing the grass mats out in the middle of the lake. I have had good luck catching Sacks there in years past during the summer. Best tube bait colors were Blue/white, Dark green (or black)/chart. I often fished with Beetle spins.

Man i'm starting to get pumped about going fishing man. When it gets back to normal i'm going spend a couple days on the bend.

Grass was so bad you had to look for best way to get through the mats and the duck weed was thick enought to plug up an outboad engine. Now I guess you are going to tell me that Cow Island lake does not have "grass" anymore! |
I remember when I was very young (20 or so years ago) we would fish lake martin and it was grassed up as you describe. Several years back they stocked grass carp and sprayed the lake. Now the main lake is wide open, duck weed and lillys are still there along the banks but they spray often to keep it tame. Now cow island is still full of grass and Im sure it will stay that way.
