Speed trap in Pecan Island

Beware when travelling through Pecan Island. The speed limit goes down from 55 to 50 mph for about 1.5 miles near old PI high school and guess where the sheriff's dept man is waiting, yep, in the 50. I guess he's waiting in the 50mph vs 55 zone so Verm parish can collect even more $$ for going x number of miles more over the speed limit. I hate when governmental people take advantage of the public in such a manner. Yes, I know the cops say they are doing it for safety reasons, blah, blah. Golden Meadow junior in the making!! IMHO

Was a speed limit sign placed on the side of the road marked as "50"???

They are not doing it for safety reasons, but for financial reasons.

I did 60 in that area a few weeks ago and he followed me for a mile or so but never pulled me over. Guess I got lucky

Vermillion parish really isnt bad. Cameron dif story

specktator 01-03-2013 03:31 PM

Dis he pull you over? He is always sitting there but I have never seen him pull anyone over. They are pretty cool around there. I was flying down there one time and he stopped me in front of acadiana marina and he just fussed me a little and told me to slow down and let me go.

Dont let Iron Man see this thread. Messing with official police business.

He's been sitting there for years and always will be but I've never seen him pull anybody over that didn't deserve it.

Yes - the speed limit "50* sign places on the side of the road before passing Catholic Church on right side. ( go down on way to west). Another the side of the road where go down on way to east places the speed limit "50* sign after passing few camps on right side beside the marsh is. There are two speed limit *50* signs between about two miles range each sides of the road. You could notice the sign clearly.

Well not sure what the issue is then......;) Seems to me that someone just happen to get caught speeding......:p

I have never slowed down between Cameron and New Iberia on 82.
I been lucky I guess.

gasdad 01-03-2013 05:24 PM

My point is this is a very short distance for a 5 mph difference in speed and he chooses to sit there to hand out his tickets vs the 55 mph zone. He's taking advantage of people that may not be paying close attention like I was. If I'm intentionally speeding I deserve the ticket but this was not the case. My other intent of course was to forewarn others so they may avoid getting a needless ticket.

I'm in and around there year round and never had a problem.... This morning after the hunt he was sitting near the humble canal bridge in the 25mph zone..... I was nowhere close to doing 25( but I do slow down for the pontoon bridge) he just waved and didn't move... Have noticed LSP between the Island and Little Prairie pulling people over.

specktator 01-03-2013 06:13 PM

Yeh. No offense but if you got pulled over for speeding in that area you had to be a good 15 mph over limit.

Saw LSP pulled a car for speeding (the car traveled on 82 northbound about 1-2 miles from the bridge after we passed Little Prairie bridge (on way to Pecan Island for fishing trip) yesterday morning. You ALL better OBEY the speed limit sign :pissed:
