Texas Second Split Opener

Hot, foggy and calm conditions on opening morning, but it didn't matter. Eight hunters killed 48 birds on Saturday and 7 hunters killed 30 birds on Sunday. Lots of pintail, grey's, teal and a few mallards. Made a quick hunt with a friend on Wednesday and killed 12.
A few of us made a goose hunt Saturday afternoon killing 5 specks. If Sandhill Cranes would have been in season we could have smashed them. I bet they all leave before it opens on the 22nd. It was hard to get into our laydown blinds after we ran accross a 4.5 foot rattle snake close to where we set up. Good luck to everyone in this weekend. There should be some birds down after this past front and 2 weeks of resting. |
Great hunt and pics...just put some moth balls around and that should keep the snakes out or the old cowboy rope trick. I am with you though, there is not enough tricks out there for me to feel safe after seeing that thing.
