Vermillion Bay Afternoon

2 Attachment(s)
Made a late afternoon trip out to Vermillion Bay and was greeted with a howling SSE wind blowing at about 19kts. Bay was choclate milk and waves were bone jarring. Nothing for a couple of hardcores...ya right! Just couldn't stay out there so ran down the Intracoastal to find a somewhat protected pass to get into Weeks Bay and out of the direct wrath of Mother Nature's breath. Some birds working but almost impossible to fish them with the gails blowing us off the point. White cocahoes and white 4" Gulp shrimp with a red 3/8 oz. jig and a quick jerking retrieve in about 4' of water gave the 2 of us 9 specks and a nice flattie. Everything caught while anchored. As usuall, fish hit it on the drop everytime...except for the Cork Killa that entertained my fishing partner. That cork ain't lookin' so good now! Water was a little cleaner but muddy at Little Mud Point. Thank goodness I had the Curados fine tuned to cast into the wind. Still managed a couple of professional overrides but, overall, wasn't bad. Also threw rattletraps with only one hit...a submerged tree that claimed my brand new trap. Fish bit lite but often had the hook deep. Only lost one fish today and it was a sandie. No great size or numbers, but hey, what better way to spend a quickie on the water. Oh, and to the guy that passed between us the bank we were throwing to with his outboard running...well lets just leave it at that! Just wouldn't be fishing Vermillion Bay without at least one! :shaking:

Good fish man! I'm doubt if I'm going to have that kind of success this weekend with all the mud. Can't wait until its prime fall catching time

Gotta love it when you can pull one out when you aren't supposed to.

Launched out of the Port thinking it would be a little more forgiving knowing the wind was going to be brutal. Even Commercial Canal was rough. It was just a matter of finding an area that we could tolerate the wind. Fish were lagniappe at that point! It did lay down some around 6:00 but still was at a pretty good clip. There's still a lot of bait running through that area. Just surprised there aren't more fish both in numbers and size. Maybe next week.
