Air Conditioning

Inside A/C unit went out in our house, any suggestions of someone who will give you a decent price and service in Lafayette. A friend of mine that does repair work looked at it already and said it was beyond what he is capable of doing. So the inside unit may need to be replaced.

Thanks for any input.

Red Devil 10-07-2009 01:11 PM

Dude, I wish you luck. Depending on the age of the unit, with the new green laws and such, it will have to be 13SCER (spelling) or higher. Also, location of the unit and what not. We just replaced the outside unit at a cost of 3500. He told me to hope and pray the inside part don't go out because mine is in the ceiling. That would call for a contractor as well because there is no way it will fit through the attic opening. Just a little info for ya and good luck. RD

hey express07 , I am and A/C tech for D&D refrigeration, in lake charles , i dont know to many companys in laffayette, but we do sometimes work over there , maybe i can help, let me know if you interested

I would pay the $$$ to get someone out to see if it can be fixed.
That would be cheaper than replacing.
If'n I was home, I could hook you up. But I am offshore.

express07 10-07-2009 02:20 PM

It's located in an inside closet, no attic. I'm having a couple guys come out to look at it in the am to see if it can be fixed. I'm going to compare costs fix vs repair. The unit's about 12 years old. Samich, I'll let you know what I find out what's wrong with it and get your thoughts on it. Thanks for the input!

express07 10-07-2009 02:20 PM

Sorry- fix vs replace.

flounder_smacker 10-07-2009 04:55 PM

what you need ac for its about to get cold. just sweat it out for the rest of the month and get a ac when it warms up again. spend the money on a new fourwheeler lol.

Trust me, if it weren't for the wife and kids, I'd wait till spring.

Listen to 105.1 KPEL..............I hear the advertisements all the time for clunker ac units..........The GOV is giving a tax rebate and so is the company, so it's like 4000 off........I dig the new ones...........bout the size of a 48qt ice chest

samich 10-07-2009 07:27 PM

Express, let me know , and maybe it can be an easy fix istead of a replace , 12 years old is not real old , i can proably find parts still , so let me know

CatDaddy 10-07-2009 09:20 PM

I have an old unit sitting by my garage. The compressor is bad.. Everything else is still good, like the points, and fan motor. Your more than welcome to have it if you need it. I was gonna make a shop fan out the motor, buts its a 220 motor..

There is also a guy from Morse that does all my work, h might have some parts also..

Don't blame me, I voted for McCain..

A/C man just left, went w/ Barry's. Cheaper to fix it, got it up and running - good service reasonable cost.

Thanks a lot to everyone who responded, it's amazing how everyone is so willing to help out. It shows a lot about our region - Thanks again!!
