X - bolt grouping??

Have a Browning X-bolt 7mm-08, on a clean cold barrel, 1st shot good. 2nd shot anywhere from 1-3" off. Let it cool and clean it again. Same thing. This is with 2 different types of ammo. Not scope either, same results after 2 different quality optics. Any suggestions???

Dont miss the first shot.
What happens ith the 3rd and 4th shots?
What type of ammo?
What type of mounts?

I had the same problem with a Browning A bolt in .223 WSSM with a bull barrel. First shot was dead on and every shot after was all over the place. I sent it back to browning and they test fired it multiple times with the same result. They re crowned the barrel and still same thing, so they put a brand new barrel on it and it groups great now. I had a very small ding in the stock and if it wasn't for that they would have sent me an entire bran new gun.

My bro in law swears his x bolt 300 won't group. I always blamed his skills but may have to see about sending it back

My dads gun, might take more than one shot!! Lol. That's why I'm trying to get it right. All shots after the first are usually low and left out to about 3.5". Ammo 140gr fed. Fusion, and 140gr rem. Accutips. DNZ mounts.

When you changed the scope did you make sure the base was secure to the gun and the rings secure to the base. I had that problem with a 444

latravcha 10-09-2012 11:44 AM

Nevermind DNZ are one piece bases. Did you make sure they are tight

That's a tough one, one of my podnuhs had the same problem with a brownig auto in a 7 mag. He finally brought it to Bayou tech gun shop in Arnaudville, La. not sure what they did to correct it though.

I own 5 7mm-08's 1 Remington 2 Rugers 1 Browning Micro A bolt & 1 Browning BLR. Have tried all the fancy crap high dollar shells & can't get a group out of any of them.....they all shoot the Core Lokt 140 excellent.

DA COVE 10-10-2012 10:26 AM

Thanks for the input.

Might try the core-lokt in it fisrt. If no improvement, it will be shipped back. Thank again for the input..

I have an a-bolt w/boss and shoot 139grain hornady sst's. This gun is an absolute tack driver...

I had similar problems with my browning bar .270....started shooting hornady interlock and it is perfect.

Try not cleaning the barrel every couple of shots. A barrel with a little copper fouling will normally shoot better. also try numerous types of ammo before giving up. My 308 xbolt shoots under half inch when I do my part.

Have tried shooting it on a fouled barrel , just not with multiple loads. That's when I started cleaning it every 2-3 shot. that's when i got a slight inprovement.

That's what I was looking for!!

Good deal. Most of the time it's not a bad barrel, just have to find what the gun wants. 100 fps up or down can make a big difference in a group. Glad it worked out for ya.
