Fuel filter water seperator priming problem
 

Installed one of these on my mud buddy and can't get the fuel line to prime. I do have the bulb between the filter and the motor. Bulb works ok when I bypass the filter. Any ideas?

Move the bulb to put it before the filter. It is easier to "push" the fuel than it is to "suck" up the fuel.

I understand but according to the manufacturer, it belongs between the filter and the motor. I've read that the filter work off of vacuum and not pressure.

sounds like you may have a leak sucking air, check connections and gasket

Some engine manufacturers fuel pumps won't "pull" fuel thru an external filter... Is the filter rated (recommended) for your setup ?

Did you pour gas into the filter before installing it?

Make sure gasket on filter is in place.

Put a little motor oil on the gasket before putting it on

Make sure all connections are tight and you don't have an air leak.


When you try to prime it, put your ear up to the filter and if there is an air leak, you should hear it

I simply leave one of the plugs out of the element base and set a gas tank on top of the motor and let the fuel gravity feed to the separator till full, insert plug and go.

I just fill up the element before I screw it onto the base. I also have my bulb between the tank and the motor.

Thanks for the advice guys but I just tool it off for now. Need it for in the morning and couldn't afford to mess with it anymore now.
