TOOK MY 9 YR OLD ON HIS FIRST DOVE HUNT. HE USED HIS GREAT GRANDMOTHER'S CRACK BARREL .410. WHICH IS OVER 60 YEARS OLD. THE FIRST DOVE CAME RIGHT TO THE MOJO. I KEPT TELLING HIM SHOOT...SHOOT!!! WHEN HE FINALLY SHOT HE KNOCKED THE TAIL FEATHERS!! I TOLD HIM DON'T GET DISCOURAGED CAUSE WE ALL MISS. WELL HE WASN'T WORRIED AT ALL HE WAS ALREADY LOADING HIS GUN AGAIN. AT THIS POINT I ASSUMED HE WAS HOOKED! HIS FIRST KILL WENT ABOUT THE SAME WAY. THE DOVE CAME RIGHT IN AND WHEN I SAID SHOOT HE DID!! THE BIRD FELL DEAD!!! HIS SMILLE WAS SO BIG I THOUGHT HIS FACE WAS GOING TO CRACK!!! WE ENDED THE SHORT TRIP WITH 8 DOVES. HE EVEN HELPED ME CLEAN THEM. HE TOLD HIS MOM, "WELL I GOTTA LEARN HOW TO CLEAN THEM NOW THAT I CAN HUNT THEM". Ii THOUGHT TO MYSELF, "I HAVE BEEN WAITING ALL MY LIFE FOR THIS DAY...THIS MOMENT!!! NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM ONE PROUD DADDY!!!

X2. He won't forget it either. My dad always took me with him anytime he would go hunting or fishing. I can count on one hand how many times he went without me. We are real close and I think it's because we have spent so much time together doing what we love

Nice.... the pasture I dove hunt is flooded. Maybe in a week or so it will be okay.

How old is your son? Mine is 8, I plan on letting him use my .28 when we go. I'll just sit with him and let him have fun.

GREAT.

Love it when the kids are involved.

Hope you don't mind, I rotated the pic. Drives me nuts.

THANKS FOR ASSISTANCE! THOUGHT I HAD TAKEN CARE OF THAT WHEN I POSTED IT. :rotfl: ON ANOTHER NOTE HAVE YOU BEEN ON THE RIVER RECENTLY? I DROVE BY AND THE WATER LOOKED GOOD, NOT TO CLEAR OR STAINED! THEY SHOULD BE SCHOOLING SOON. II WISH I COULD HAVE FISHED IT THOSE FEW DAYS AFTER THE STORM. THE WATER WAS RUSHING OUT THE CUTS. THEY WERE PROLLY STACKED IN THE FRONT!

Nothing will create life lasting memories for you and your son than an afternoon together in a dove field. Just was thinking about the times as a young'un with my dad many, many years ago. I was his retriever for a few years until i could hold up a .410....still brings a smile to me.

I haven't been on the river in a while. I get too aggravated with that place to fish it much any more.
