HSE side of offshore?
 

Does anyone work in this area. Looking at getting out of law enforcement and venture off in this line of work in the oil field.

Wouldn't be a bad idea, you can't take a dump without safety being involved, be ready to be the most hated person on the rig though.

Safety is great career, that is what I do, in Chemical Manufacturing. Yes, we attempt to be involved in everything, but most importantly we want people to go home with what they came to work with.
When i need to give someone a chewin, I ask them if they have a family-wife-kids, then go on to say would you like my ugly @%$ informing your wife you are no longer with us", that does get their attention.

By the way 80K is starting, with little to no experience with college degree. 5 to 10 years experience can get 100k-130k.

Be ready for some classes/training etc. lots of it.

Just remember, the more you make the more you gonna spend
