Select Baseball

Come try out for Team Louisiana. We have a brand new facility in Erath, La but most teams do not practice there. My sons team is 11U. We practice near Carencro and are going to Omaha for the World Series next year. It's during the college world series so hopefully LSU will be there. There is a $100 fee for tryouts which is returned if your child doesn't make the team and applied towards your fee if they do. Some teams may play some fall tournaments but this is for spring teams. Here is the information:

Tryout dates:
Saturday August 25th:
7U 10AM - 11:30AM
8U 12PM - 1:30PM
9U 2:30PM - 4PM
10U 4PM- 5:30PM

Sunday August 26th:
11U 11AM - 12:30PM
12U 1PM - 2:30PM
13U 3PM - 4:30PM
14U 5PM - 6:30PM

When I was still playing travel ball, if you had money for an entry fee then you could play in whatever tournament you wanted. Basically you are putting money up to play quality competition in the "world series" type tournaments.

He's probably talking about Cooperstown. They have weeklong tournaments where the kids stay in Dorms and play ball and what not. It's for 12 YO teams.

Also you all you have to do to play in USSSA world series is play in your state tournament. It's not like Dizzy Dean, Dixie Youth or Babe Ruth leagues where you have to win in State and Regionals to play.

All you have to do to qualify is pretty much play in a USSSA tournament to qualify. We already put our downpayment to Omaha. Most select teams and all star (Dixie Youth, Babe Ruth, Dizzy Dean, etc...) don't compete at the same level. All star teams don't usually compete very well with tournament teams. The all star teams have to qualify for their world series.

Just so I am understanding correct, the patents are paying a fee to allow their kids to play in a "world series"?
What happen to the days of winning your district, state, regionals and earning a world series birth?

If you play Dixie Youth, Dizzy Dean, Babe Ruth, you still have to do that in order to play in a world series.

If you play USSSA, Travel Select you don't have to do that. All you have to do to qualify is play in your state tournament which any teram can do.

Parent pay fees to have there kids on a team (ours is $150 some go as high as $2500) Fees pay for uniforms, tournament entry fees and things of that nature.

Competition has left most leagues. Want to see the difference then coach a league team the coach a select team. WORLD of difference!

Select ball is sometimes a step up being its not daddy ball, only thing bad that you get a few real good players and then you get kids whose families have a little money. They pay to play, you don't have to earn a World Series just pay for it....

World Series in USSSA is a complete joke and a huge money racket. Any team can go as long as you pay the fee. I saw this year that there is now a Red champion, a White champion, a Blue champion, and the newest, a Green Champion. So you have 4 World Series champions in each age group. What a crock of s**t. And to make it even worse they do this for 4 separate World Series tournaments during July. So, in all, there are a total 16 World Series champions in each age group per year. ***!!

Don't get me wrong, the overall competition is way better than league. But the world series thing is a complete joke. The Dixie Youth format is the way it should be. You got to earn your way to the world series, not pay your way.

Oh, and whoever thinks that there is no "Daddy Ball" in Select ball is utterly blind and naive. Believe me, "Daddy Ball" is very much alive and well. It blows my mind when a
so called coach will sacrifice the overall good of the whole team for the sake of his son. I've seen some really good teams lose big games at the end all because the coach wants Jr. to be the hero.
