towing empty trailer?

Well hopefully by August ill be picking up my skiff from MS. only problem is I have to pull an empty boat trailer for 4 hours. The trailer is a single axle trailer for a 16ft boat. Anybody have any ideas on what I can do to keep it from bouncing.

Maybe take a little air out of the tires.

Just get some finishing nail's (2 or 3 per side) and nail a sheet of paneling to the bunks so they have something secure to ride on.

Put about 10psi in them.

Strap a 55 gal drum full of water on it. When you get there empty and discard.

I can only imagine what that would look like going down the road.I really like the barrel idea. I might do that then I can use it to run my motor as well. Im just anxious to see how the caravan is gonna pull it vs my blazer

What ever you decide to do, take it for a test ride to check it out.

I plan on it. Im just nervous,it'll be my first time towing down the interstate.but from what ive been reading I'm worrying about nothing.Im pretty sure with about 300lbs of water on it itll ride just fine. Plus with the longer wheelbase of the van It'll do just fine

What kind of skiff you buying?

Is it made in MS

I towed a trailer back from Florida, thought about the barrel idea. Then I thought what could go wrong with that, coming loose at 70+ mph, I decided to leave it empty. It didn't bounce much at all. Be careful, I would consider the "bolting" of a piece of plywood to your bunks and strap something heavy to it. But strap it very very well...good luck.

I started it two years ago and put it on the back burner because of college and having a baby. Plus its hard to work on something four hours away.im hopin next month ill have the front deck and back deck done and have it re gelcoated. I planned on using it as a flounder boat in biloxi but I moved over here to LA

I thought about the barrel coming off too. But I believe I can ratchet strap it tight enough between the bunks to where its not gonna go anywhere. It all depends on hiw the test run goes.

Keywest18 06-14-2012 08:21 AM

Yea but its well worth it. I'll have around $1,000 into it and that'll be brand new 2" transom I had beefed up.all new flooring amd decking.it looks worse then it is. I've been on there a few times they have alot of talented people on that site

BROWN FIN 06-14-2012 05:01 PM
