Electric tankless hot water heater question
 

I'm getting bids from plumbers and the first one I've talked to said that I wouldn't like a electric tankless water heater. He said it doesn't heat the water as fast as propane or gas and that he doesn't recommend it. I was wonder if anyone out here has one and whats your opinion on it. Thanks.

I do not own one, but I like the concept behind it.

That being said, I do know several people who have installed new water heaters in the last couple of years and they have all been told the same thing by their contractors that you were...and they all ended up going with a gas heated tank

I have installed and used both, both work awesome- gas heats much quicker and is much cheaper. It is an instant heat so the electric is not strong enough without using tons of electricity. Most gas ones are big enough for a whole house, electric ones are meant to be zoned for each bathroom, kitchen, or each sink. Electric make ones that go under each sink and work great. I have installed a large electric one and it took 3-30 amp breakers, works great but is zoned for one bathroom and one sink

Go with gas. Electric suck. I use to sale them when I worked for southern pipe.

I have had both, and the gas is FAR better.. If you can go gas, go for it.

I put at gas one at my camp on POC and it runs of a bbq size propane container... So if you didnt have anything else gas, you could run a 100# bottle and have it away from the house etc, or get the bigger tank

IMO An electric tankless water is good for one purpose, to save space.

If you are looking at efficiency, then look at the tankless gas, if you have gas.

If you don not have natural gas, and are locked into electricity as your only power source consider a hybrid. We are having this very discussion at this link:

We put a tankless gas water heater in our home last year.
I can sum it up in one word.....SWEET.

Yea but if Is it worth me buying a gas one then having a propane tank put in the ground and then having to buy propane. Is it worth the added cost???

over the electric ... yes!

Look at it like this, its worth the added cost of installing a gas tank for a gas water heater then installing a gas fireplace and possibly gas stove

I agree! The electric heaters require electrical service for THREE 60 amp 220 volt breakers, which is going to pull tons of electricity. You are much better off with a gas unit. I own one and It is a great source of endless hot water. Watch lowes or depot for any that may be for sale where the customer changed their mind. I picked use up for $800 and it gives me all the hot water I need.

i must agree da gas will burn da water i had one in colorado but u are still talking about a level of efeciancy that is hard to boost so i say again

can u go with a solar preheater to the electric.

or the gas if u got to but both will benifit from the small window coil.
