Looking for help!!!
What do you call the shrimp nets on a rectangle frame that you see mounted on docks and warfs? Does anyone know of someone that can help me with mine in the grand chenier area??? I need a new net and motor, maybe some minor work to the frame.

butterfly net. Is your net ripped or just not there? If it is damaged there are places that repair nets for shrimpers and I'm sure you can get yours done there. As for the rest of it check with the net repair people and I'm sure they know people that work on that kind of stuff

We always called them popierres "french"

We always called them butterfly nets as well. Seems a lot of people don't understand what Im talking about when I say that. Just wanted some input. The current net that I have definetly needs to be replaced..........holes everywhere. Also the top of the frame came disconnected from the swivel pole or whatever its called???? The motor that pulls the net up will also need to be replaced since it was submerged during the hurricanes. Since I have all this that needs to be done and no experience doing similar work, I was hoping to find someone that would give me a bid on the job.

where is the net at? If it is not to far I might be willing to do the work for you and teach you how to use it in exchange for shrimp. Send me a picture of your set up and what is wrong with it. By the way nets can be repaired for fairley cheep. We have ripped six foot hole in our nets and had them fixed for $75. Depending on the size of the net it could cost as much as 1,000 to get a new one.

The net is still on the frame in Grand Chenier. Its dry rotted and will have to be replaced. If I had to guess the size of the frame I would say it is a 22' x 12' give or take. I will take some pictures next time Im down there. I know how to run it, I just need to get it up and running so I can. I dont mind trading shrimp for work or paying in cash. Just want it operational.....

Get me some pictures of your set up

Here is a pic of it that I took last summer. Hard to see the damage, but this is it.

Thats a nice set-up, all you need to do is the dimetions of the frame and get a net builder to give you a quote. Get the model number on the motor and you can get it re-winded or you can buy a new one. Also, its really easy to put the net on the frame. IF you have a boat you can actually attace it to the frame with tie-wraps.

Holler if you need some help and if I am free, I will go meet you

you right there by the boat launch in GC?
|
Sounds easy enough. I guess the net builder knows what length the net should be? I never thought about putting it on by boat. That would be much easier! Camp is just up the river on the turn.
