The article didn't state when the deer was taken. Does anyone know when it was? I'm assuming, since the deer is already mounted, this was at least done last year.

I guess that's why you never tell a secret if you want it to remain a secret!

It does say that this was back in December. That picture does look like a mounted deer. Maybe that is a trail cam picture of the deer.

A deer can be mounted in 3 weeks or less. What usually takes so long is waiting in line behind others that have brought deer in before yours. Some taxidermists will accept extra money to move it to the top of the list.;)

so all he did was shoot it with an "outlawed" caliber for deer? I thought for sure he at least snuck in a high fence or was headlighting?!

Yep, just shot it unknowningly with an illegal caliber. Never lied about what he shot it with because he was unaware he had done anything wrong.

Here is a brief write up from BayouBucks with a pic of the actual horns. The picture of the buck on vermiliontoday.com is a buck from Ohio.

Wow! That's the kind of friends I want!? The way they act is like he shot it from his truck at night.

PUREBAY2200 01-29-2012 09:49 PM

I don't understand why there is a caliber that is illegal??

I don't know much about calibers

Why was his illegal??

flounder_smacker 01-29-2012 09:54 PM

its all about making a humane kill and not wounding deer to let them run off and die somewhere else. not supposed to shoot with nothing smaller than .22 cal. he shot it with a 204 which is a hot little round and he prob dropped it in its tracks. its always good to read the regs before going out to hunt.

PUREBAY2200 01-29-2012 09:58 PM

So he used excessive force or not enough??
Yea I definitely agree.
Taking low percentage shot is not worth it; wounding a deer is not good hunting.

Chris Havoc 01-30-2012 12:52 AM

I'm not condoning what he did, its against the law, and he broke the law, and then obviously lied about it. I just expected it to be something "else" as i was reading the headline
