New Ducks 12-28

I'm not sure if pressure is pushing them around,or the rain stirring them. Saw over 200 mallards today. First time this year I see good flocks. Mostly moving in 10s-20s there have been a few singles and pairs around since earlier. Most were moderately high. Did get 3 mallards to break from about 20 teal with a drake whistle. Those 3 and 2 pairs of woodies are the only thing that decoyed. Birds were very call shy. My season has finally started. Only had 6 teal and 2 woody decoys set due to lack of water before the last rain. The rain helped and I'll try a couple dozen mallards tommorrow. Shoot straight.

Good report! I tried something new today. i moved 5 dekes over from my main spread. All the birds that came in today went right to the small group. So I spent the last hour of my hunt grouping up sets of dekes. I did also see large groups of specks all over.

Update

Went set deeks tonight and kicked out a pile of woodies. Haven't seen more than 30 any one morning with less than 10 in range all season. At least 20 were in there. Also had a big bunch of grays(~25) come under the tree tops and spook while I was halfway done setting decoys. I last hunted this spot on Christmas eve;what a difference a few days make. So far the season has been terrible in the woods(less than 1duck/hunter/day). It's gonna be tough to sleep tonight!

I decided to not go hunting this morning. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Thursday 2 limits of woodies and 4 grays...still 2 short of limit. Had two flocks of mallards work but wouldn't finish. A few woodies this morning but quit at 8 fog was terrible. Wish we had more water so I could put out a bigger spread. Hard to pull in a flock of 20 mallards with only 20 decoys.
