Best fishing setup for a 5yr old.

I'm looking at getting my 5yr old son a new rod and reel for Christmas. We just bought him a 2 piece spiderman rod and reel. After he caught a big red in big lake I realized it wasn't tough enough to handle saltwater fishing. I was thinking of a under cast. I'm sure with a little practice he could cast it with no problem. I'm sure somebody on here has ran into the same problem and can share some light on this.

Um No. Lol. Something a little less expensive in case it goes swimming besides the # of backlashes.

Go look at the shimano sienna reel and a shimano rod! Lotta bang for ur buck!
Some places have em set up in combos already

Get him one of the zebco setups. He will never get a birdsnest with that reel, so now he can concentrate on hooking your line, the bank, things under water, pilings, bridges, etc... and maybe that big red or speck.

Im talking about the ones that are on top of the pole with the push button thing to cast. I wasnt coordinated enough at 5 to use the reels underneath the pole.

If you go with a spinning reel make sure you spool it up with some braid like fins windtamer. Mono on a spinner+kids= nasty line twist mess!

Yeah a Zebco 733 on a Ugly Stick. My 11 yr old "Tangles" next set up. He isn't any better and not getting tangled up, but I quit untangling for him so he is figuring out part of it. I told him all that tangling up is gonna mess up his fishing not mine.

zebco 33 combo, i had one when i was a kid and it lasted like 7 years and went "swimming" alot, not to mention all the times i dropped it in the sand lol.

Zebco 33 matched with an ugly stick can't go wrong for a kid and can take alot of abuse

I had a zebco 33 until I became interested with my dads baitcaster at about 9 years old...backlashed it the yard and got disciplined for that. Got a cheapo baitcaster that christmas. Nothing wrong with a zebco. He will have fun learning to fish with it. Only downside is slow retrieve.

Moron I said he already has a spiderman pole. He can cast that thing a mile. It just don't hold up to reds and decent sized specs.
