Grand Isle post TS Lee

Made a Grand Isle trip Wednesday for work. Much water remaining as soon as you get over the levee in Golden Meadow. After the new bridge in Leeville all the way to Grand Isle, tons of grass and reeds piled up on the sides of the road and all in the marsh. Even though it is not very sightly in the marsh, this will actually help to build a little land. Apparently, after Katrina and Rita there was tons of grass piled up on th side of the road and it was hauled off to the garbage:redface:. Seems as if they are now going to save this vegetation for restoration purposes:) Funny, because the most obvious and elementary things are overlooked by the scientists with the Ph.Ds. Not gonna go on a rant, because I surely could, but every year there is a 'roundup' of derelict crab traps, and the traps are destroyed:shaking:. Most of these old traps have grasses growing from them and even oysters forming on them. Seems almost elementary that you could round up the traps, stake them down, place some oyster shells in them and the oysters will take to the old shells, the traps will eventually degrade, and you are left with oyster reef for very little money. I will leave coastal restoration talk for another day..perhaps tomorrow:D

Rode down to Elmer's Island today and as you get onto the beach you can only go about 1/4 mile in either direction. There are newly formed channels going from the marsh into the gulf. The tide was going out this afternoon and ripping thru these new channels. Ought to be interesting to see what will be done with these.

Lotta fish running in those cuts:) Beach on Elmer's looked great this afternoon, main island real muddy this morning despite north wind, the wind was a little rough and the shrimp trawlers were real close. Marsh has lots of debris but looks really good. Wish I could stay and fish this weekend
