N.O. East bass fishing

I headed to Metairie today after work to bring my truck to veterans ford for tires that they owed me as part of me buying my truck there a week and a half ago. I figured since I drove down there from baton rouge I might as well stop at a fishing spot on the east side of New Orleans that I know of, and take a look and see if I can see where the heck all this smoke is coming from! I pass bayou salvauge NWR and don't see any fire or smoke, but everywhere else there's smoke, what the heck! So I make a stop and start walking the bank with my pole, casting to see If I can catch something, after about ten minutes I catch a rat red about ten inches long and I throw it back, the wind is blowing straight toward me as I'm casting into the wind, I finally walk to a spot with some pilings from a camp that was probably blown down from katrina and I cast and catch a bass, my next cast, another bass, it was on like donkey kong! I caught a quick limit working those piling between 7 and 7:30 After I had caught 5 a guy pulled up with a 5 gallon bucket with some live shrimp, I out caught him with plastics, and I was giving him the bass I was catching after I had caught my limit and then I headed home, good day in New Orleans east.

Can i ask where you caught the fish im from the area and ive never found a spot like that?
Just a general area to look at even; I can hardly catch fish from the boat not to mention from the bank.

use to tear them up like that in canal by Lombardts

Nice catch there.

Been years but I use to fish up in that area and launched from Lombardts and fished that canal right there. Use to be like an L and go back toward Irish Bayou area. You could load up on your limit of fish back in those days on those deep runouts compared to the rest of the canal. Pretty fun during the winter or early spring you could catch bass mixed in with speckled trout, flounder, and redfish.

That was a place if you had a bateau with a little kicker motor or even trollmotor you could catch some fish.

well, I'm glad its not a secret spot! I caught em in Irish bayou off hwy 11 just didn't want to broadcast it! but its only a couple miles further than pearl river so I'll be fishing over there a little more now.

The area still not like lower Pearl

I fished it due to I had a college roomate from that area.
Never caught huge bass, but had fun.
Still not as good as the Pearl, but I don't know how soon the Pearl will recover.
