Looking for a spincast for SW use

I am trying to find a spincast reel for my lil bro that will last longer than a zebco 33 in salt. Anyone ever used any of diawa or abu garcia's in salt?

Dude get him a Penn and be done with it

I tried to get him use to a spinning reel but he gets aggravated too easy. Trying to keep it as simple as possible so he focuses on fishing not the reel.

The old red and black Abu Garcia is a great reel that will endure the salt. My mom still has hers after a number of years. She has used it wading and it stays working fine w/ a little cleaning. She'll still wade the surf if it's calm enough.

Check west marines web site and see if they still have the citica for 50 bucks.

well, in SPINCAST REELS.. the daiwa gold cast 100 and 120 series reels are anodized for sw use, hold up well and run about $50. the abumatic reels dont do as well and cost $50 and up. zebco 808sw and 888sw arent too bad for the price, selling for $30-$40. the problem with most spincast reels is the slow retrieve ratio. like the zebco has a 2.8:1!

i hear ya. yeah, the reels i mentioned in the earlier post should work fine.. i personally prefer the daiwas. smooth drag, decent spool capacity.

Thanks bro

Check out the Zebco Omega's. These are unbelievably smooth and durable and are no comparison to the original Zebco's. Aircraft aluminum frame and all metal gears. Tough to beat. Prolly wouldn't hold up to a redfish though???
