Me and Scatv went fishing today. We expected to get on a speck bite in the morning, but couldn't find them. So, we ended up in a flounder hole on the south bank catching 13 nice ones. All were caught on gulp white 4 inch swimming minnow on an incoming tide. The biggest went 2.5 lbs and smallest was 1.5 lbs. They were some nice flats. Sorry, no pics-- they are already cleaned! Oh, Scat did catch one small trout. My boat had engine problems and almost ruined our day.

Can't ever complain about putting a bunch of flatties in the boat!

scatv 08-15-2009 08:14 PM

Can't complain about the flatties, but coming back in at 6mph really sucks, although we did make it back to the launch. All in all a decent day.

Nice catch. Sorry to hear about the motor problems.
But still better than being towed back to the landing.:D

13 flounder is impressive anytime. Wouldn't mind tryin' that next trip over. There seems to be alot of flounder in Big Lake. How's the fishin' for them in October?

Good as it gets!

Flounder fishing is normally great in sept and oct they tend to stack up on the flats up and down the ship channel. The size seems to come down though, but when you catch one you will catch ten to twenty more in the same spot.

what do you fish them with

scatv 08-15-2009 09:12 PM

Just put in the time and learn where they hang out during certain times of the year and on certain tides. It's all about patterning them. They actually are pretty easy to catch. They are a predictable and aggressive fish. I've had many fish get lost at the boat by me or my fishing buddies. I immediately threw where they were lost and can hook them again. Very aggressive!

Me and a buddy have caught or come close to catching our limit of flounder numerous times at blue crAb recreation weir off of highway 27. U don't even need a boat. We use 3" white gulp shrimp. And hammer them in the spring time around April. It is so funny b/c the ppl crAbbing are just watching us like how the hell are yAll catching them. I have given ppl at the weirs gulps and watched them have a blast.
