Duck help

2 Attachment(s)
My daughter has more love for animals then any person I have ever known and it breaks her heart to know that one of our neighborhood ducks seems to be losing his bottom beak and is having trouble eating. Not sure how it happened but my girls feed these ducks like clock work every day and protect there eggs in our flower beds. Well I just got home from work and my youngest is in the yard feeding this injured duck and crying again. Do you guys know anyone I could call to come get this thing or somewhere I can bring it that would be free? I don't even know if it can be helped. I would love to make a good gravy with it but my daughter would never forgive me.

Smoke it when she's not around.

Man that ain't good...not to sound inhumane but I'd say the best thing to do is when it gets to the point it can't eat any longer to go ahead and put it out it's misery...I actually believe that's the most humane thing and I'm all for that....

Good luck...

Thanks man. We called a laddy that lives just a couple of miles away and she was just plumb tickled to help out so when they come to eat in the morning the kids are going to catch him in a dip net and put him in the dog kennel and bring him to her. My little girl is so exicited! She said she is saving the neighborhood one duck at a time.

As many birds, that I just nonshalontly smoke every year, and I mean many. That just hit home rite dair. Hope it works out for the duck, and your little princess. She's got a big heart, and you as well.

Good story. I know most of us on this site hunt and fish alike, and I know speaking for myself that watching an animal suffer sucks. Where I work in the TX panhandle it is heart wrenching seeing all of the dead deer on side of the road. Vacuum trucks and oil haulers can't slow down those big rigs fast enough. Saw one with a broken back crawling through a wheat fiield and it killed me as there was nothing I could do.

Great story. I hate seeing something suffer

Big Flounder 06-21-2011 09:36 AM

I just hope they wait on me to get home to catch it. I told them that when they try to catch it they have to be comited cause when it starts flopping them wings and they get scared and let it go it probably won't be back and then it won't get help. Shouldn't be hard though. The duck eats out of the kids hands and let's them pet it. He doesn't let me touch him but he will eat out of my hand too.

LOL!! There is no way that would happen. Faron has already scared her when she saw him stop on the side the road to pick up a rabbit that had been hit and she saw him cleaning it. One night me and Faron took the kids frogging and he grabbed a gator and pulled it in the boat and you know what happened next. We had fried gator and she still hates him for that.

I think a lot of people get the wrong idea about us guys who hunt and fish. IMO we care more about animals than most people.

You guys know we haven't seen this duck since that day. I don't think it died already cause it looked like a pretty healthy duck except for the beak injury. My daughter said maybe someone else helped it out and I just agreed.
