Rules Question regarding STAR Tourny

Regarding the fly fishing rules. It says: "Flies must be of the recognized type; fly rod-sized commercial lures or flies constructed with preformed metal or plastic are not acceptable"

What is a fly rod-sized commercial lure? Does this mean you can't buy already made flys and you have to have custom tied flies or what?

I have a question also about the paddle craft division. Is my pirogue considered a paddle craft? And if so can I bring it to big lake in my boat anchor out and get in my pirogue and fish??

Yeah I had that idea last year until I read the no mothershipping rule. But yes, your pirgogue is considered a paddle craft.

What about getting pulled out?

Any assistance from any motor powered craft would disqualify you.

What it means is you cant use a fly that would disqualify you from any of the fly fishing records.
Back in the day, we used to make fly rod spoons out of acryllic fake fingernails. Caught the heck out of the reds .Those are now against the rules, (preformed plastic) Any natural or synthetic fiber or feather is legal .flies can be hand tied or store bought.
Size is there so you cant tie a spook jr on the end of your line.

So if you bought a poper specifically for fly fishing that would be against the rules since it has some plastic in it?

I have an email in to some of the folks that set the rules. I think that the fly rod size lures of preformed plastic or metal is to keep folks from using small jig heads and 1.5 " sparkle beetles. etc
My question of the rules was, If you cannot use a flie w/ preformed metal or plastic ,then you can't use a clouser or any of the flies w/ metal or plastic eyes.
This would knock out at least 2 of the top ten saltwater flies used along the gulf coast. hopefully i'll get clarification by the AM.
