AKC Dog name

4 Attachment(s)
As most of you know, i have a chocolate lab. His name is Drake. I would like to ask of you guys for a AKC registered dog name. Got off the phone with AKC and they said that it could not just be "Drake"

Here are a few pics of the dog. He will be a waterfowl dog in the near future.

Please help !!

"Drake" is what we consider to be his "call" name. You need to think of his registration papers as his license plate which will be used forever, especially if he is to ever breed a female which is also registered.

Example: "Jordan's Big Drake" would be on his papers, but you just call him "Drake". Or "Deridder Drake" - the combinations are endless. People that have a named kennel, always throw in the name of the kennel somewhere to designate that dog is from their lines, (ie. "Candlewood Black Coal" with the call name of "Coal".

My female that just had a litter is actually my son Connor's dog. Her registered name is "Connor's Cajun CandyCane" or "Cane" for short. Hope this helps you understand the not so wonderful world of AKC...............(hate em')!

so, would i name him "DeRidder Drake" or "Jordan's Big Drake" ???

Im clueless as this is my first registered dog.

I got him from PUREBAY2200..... I dont happen to see a Kennel Name on the paper. So im guessing there are none ??

Good looking pup by the way! Just a little critique if I may.?.?

Looks like the dog is on a cable tie out in one of those pictures. I have used tieouts for dogs a long time, and hog/deer dogs do well on them. Not sure if it is my imagination or not, but labs seem to not do so well on them. Try to keep him in a kennel, then as soon as he comes out the kennel, he goes on lead. This makes the "heal" part of his training so much easier. Just thought I would throw that out there, don't shoot me!

He stays in a 7X7' kennel while im at work and when he goes outside to poop or piss, he's on the lead. This is to keep him by me and for me to work with him on sitting and healing. Its a work in progress, but i dont leave him on the lead 24/7. He is 5 months 2 days ago and we brought him to the vet the other day and he was 47.6 lbs.....

Edit: he is a good minding dog, but he's stubborn sometimes. He was on the lead to get him used to being "attached to something" (I.E, a leash, etc)...

When do I get the shock collar ?? He's getting into his "dumb" stage and wants to "ignore" me when i call him to come in the house.

Yes, you can use any combination to add some names together. Let's say your girlfriends name is "Sally" and you want to impress her. Well, you would name the dog "Sally's Lover Drake" or "Sally N Drake Forever", or some stupid crap like that. I have seen some of my pups get registered using the last name of the owner, "Drake Thibodeaux", etc. which is kinda comical.

Go to the AKC website and look at past show winners if you want to see some funny names! Also, any dog coming from overseas (Germany, Belgium, Croatia, etc.) will always have "Von" in their name which represents the kennel. Most working K9 dogs that are imported have Von in the name. My last one was "Kirks Von Muncching Marko", or "Marko" for short.

Welcome to the wonderful world of labs -especially chocolate males!!!!!! LMAO! They all go thru this and glad to hear you got him a kennel set up. At this stage, I would stick to the "heal", "sit", "stay" training and getting his social life in order. You would be amazed how having him "crate" trained will help in the long run so I would work on that also right now.

They have a bunch of guys on this site that are a lot better than me for training dogs! Raymond, Ducktrictser, Duckaholic just to name a few! So I am sure you will have plenty of guys to go to for help. Also, LC has a great HRC club, and I strongly suggest you join. Even if you do not plan on running HRC, that is how I got my start on training dogs years ago. The days when guys get together and help each other are the best! I much rather that than the actual trials!

Hope this helps buddy and good luck with Drake! By the way, I still have one male and one female if you know someone looking!
