Did it sound like a 22 going off? I believe I tore my mcl walking the marsh in Dec and it definitly sounded like a gun went off. Ice it as much as possible but do not sleep on a heating pad. Got a 5th degree burn on the same knee by sleeping on the damn heating pad. Do dey gots workers comp at yo job?

I have had 13 knee surgeries on my right knee. Blew out acl, mcl, and pcl all at the same time and have had 5 reconstructions so I guess you could say I have some experience with this..

Definitely sounds like you did some damage and as stated above definitely use ICE ONLY for the first 24 to 36 hours. Get it checked out as soon as you can.

I wish you all the luck and hopefully its not too bad.
