Trout smackdown in Big Lake 1/10/2011
 

Well, decided to go out in the cold weather this morning. A buddy in my Army Reserve unit came in from Houston and he is sure glad that he did. He's not a fisherman but had no problem getting in on the trout bite. We hit the water at 7:30 and headed to the bay. 37* and only 2 other boats were around the rest of the morning. Water was super slick with a low north wind, a million birds everywhere, and no problem getting our limit of trout. My buddy had a blast and took home 30 specs and 2 reds to share with his family and friends. Great times on the water this morning.

I tried most jerk Jr colors but nothing was consistently effective. Switched to a norton shrimp glow with a pink tail and it was on almost every cast! My buddy just couldnt believe it. He also brought home king cake because he has never had that before! They are eaten good in houston tonight.

sweet. Might give it a shot this weekend. Still never got to see a group of birds working this year. I enjoy being in the middle of that. Very fun trip.
