rigs?

I don't usually post looking for advice, but I figured I'd give it a shot. Which rigs/platforms close to the Cameron Jetties do you guys fish? Specifically, which CLOSE rigs, accessible by a 22 foot bay boat, do you guys fish? It seems like every summer when I get to fish, it's always too rough to venture out. I'm hoping when I get down there in August I'll be able to check it out.

Yeah I was looking for the same info on the close rigs. Anybody catching right now?

Ray 08-04-2009 07:12 PM

You can see 2 jack up rigs to the SW of the Jetties and several to the SE of the Jetties around 6 or 7 miles out.
There are some platforms that are almost straight south of Cameron, right off the buoys about 17 miles out.
There are also some that are about 5 miles to the East of Cameron that are about 10 miles offshore. I think they are around the WC-65 area.
There are a few single well jackets south of the S-Curve between Cameron and Oak Grove, right on the beach. I saw a jack up boat and a derick barge there Sat. morning.

do you ever run out there in your boat Ray? We gonna have to try to make a trip out there when we get back in. I've got my GPS so I can mark the platforms. Have you heard of anyone catching @ the rigs that are stacked?

Ray 08-05-2009 12:06 AM

I had an offshore center console boat before my bay boat. I fished the WC-180/170 areas to the WC-368 area and also some platforms off Grand Chenier. I had a back injury the prevented me from going offshore anymore. I had back surgery in Jan. and another minor procedure in March. So I got a bay boat after all that. I cannot take much pounding or rocking anymore due to scar tissue rubbing on a nerve that hurts my left a$$ cheek and my left leg.
I have not heard of anyone catching them there, yet. I have heard about a lot of Hardheads and Spanish being caught there on live bait.
When I get in, if the weather is good, we can check the stacked rigs out and see what is there.

Sounds like a plan. I'm out here in 5800' of water. Keathly Canyon 291 on a floater

Up late???
I am at MC-809 on a TLP.
Slow night too. But that is good on first night out.

jsmoke222000 08-05-2009 02:29 AM

Yeah I work nights out here. Tripping pipe, getting ready to set casing.

cmdrost 08-05-2009 10:06 AM

dang boys....how's the water out there where you are?

jsmoke222000 08-05-2009 06:33 PM

Clear blue water as far as you can see.

Ray 08-05-2009 06:33 PM

Flat calm, clear and blue. Lots of jelly fish. There are thousands of them all over the place.

My cousin caught a wahoo only 45 miles out of cameron last saturday. I couldn't believe it.

Ray 08-20-2009 03:17 PM

Wahoo can be caught closer in, around the WC-269 and WC-368 area during July and Aug., big ones...
