Wax Lake

Any of you hunt there? Thinking bout heading down there tomorrow and doing a little scouting. How long of a run is it from Morgan City? Does 'W' hunt there? and if so I know he owns the place so I will go elsewhere:*****:

15-17 miles from MC to Calumet cut and 15 give or take to the outlet. If you go take extra gaz,h2o,and food for the night. The wax is un forgiving and you can get in trouble very easily down there.

Thats a hike! thanks for the info, is there anywhere closer to launch? I just have an itch to hunt that place for some reason - guess I need the abuse

If your boat can handle rough water you can launch at burns point and run to the delta. Either way like raymond said,it is very unforgiving and changes alot with the tide.

Probably a lot safer to rent a Dominatrix for a hour than go to the WAX but you will find out.

Sometimes a man has to do what a man has to do!

Good luck to you man, there are some birds there from what a couple guys I drink coffee with are saying

I will try most anything once, but the wife may not concur with the dominatrix:rotfl: Just looks like an adventurous hunt and I like those kinds. May wait til I get a little bigger boat before I venture down there. Hard to believe its that hard to get to, yet still have that many people that hunt it. Oh well, guess I will chase the 'wood goats' tomorrow

I've been down there with my 17.5' alum skiff without any problem. The tide and mud can be tough!

speck-chaser 01-01-2011 11:30 PM

just dock by the bridge in the calumet cut off of 90

southern151 01-01-2011 11:36 PM

I must say that when the fog is thick or it's dark, crossing that ship channel is a little un-nerving!

I have hunted there all my life. What kind of boat do you have? When are you planning on going?

I can give you some info and a few spots. I have not hunted down the Wax this year due to work but know my around very well I used to keep a camp down there during the season. If you would like I can make a weekday hunt with you and show you around some. Either a morning hunt or an evening hunt is good for me. Mornings are better for hunting. If you have a boat blind we can do well if not we will have to work harder. I think the Main Delta is better if you don't have a boat blind more areas to hunt out of a boat. Weekends are pretty bad down there because of all the other people. Weekdays are best.

If you want to try the Main Delta we can run down in my boat. And I will show you a few spots to try. It is farther and has bigger boat traffic. The was is not as far and does not have much in the way of boat traffic. If you come down bring a GPS so you can save waypoints and routes.

Wow, that's an excellent offer! I would just like to go experience some marsh hunting. PM sent

Yeh your best bet is to go for the first time with someone very or at least somewhat knowledgeable of the area. Like everyone says, it very dangerous out there. Someone gets killed in a boating accident just about every season. Or if u decide not to do that, make sure your first trip isn't in the dark. Go out in the daylight and bring a GPS, mark where u think u wanna hunt, and lay out a track/route. When u go in the morning, don't get off that track/route or you will be in a bind.
