(Mechanics) 3 inch chevy blocks

i have a 2006 chevy 1500 and i want to drop the rear end.....someone told me i cant use 3 inch chevy lowering blocks because my truck is springs over axle instead of axle over springs....i was wondering if anybody knew if this was true??? if so would i need a rear axle flip kit to do it?? is there any other way to drop the rear without having to flip the axle if this is true?

You need drop shackles and hangers for the leaf springs. Using blocks will lift it.

so if i get adjustable rear shackles will it give me an option to lower it up to 3 inches?

and why hangers?

Not sure if they make 3" drop shackles. Most of them are only 2"...using drop shackles and hangers will usually drop it about 4". I have 2" drop shackles on my truck just to level it out,the front is stock.

How low u tryin to go?

southern151 09-29-2010 08:13 PM

2"drop shackles. 2" drop hangers. You can get less on the hangers if ya want. Call me at the shop tomorrow and I can tell ya how to do it. Gonna need an air chisel and a good compressor!

im tryin to go 3 inches....or a lil bit lower than level but not much lower....montauk u got a pic of your truck id really like to see how it sits to see if thatd be enough or if id want a little more...

southern can i make the hangers only 1 inch?? also how much do hangers run?? i know i can get shackles for about 16 or 17 bucks from autozone...

Throw some bags on it

southern151 09-29-2010 08:18 PM

Hangers are more and require more effort. You have to remove the factory hanger which is riveted on.

If you want the truck level, figure, on average, 2" more in the back than the front.

longsidelandry 09-29-2010 08:20 PM

Why not just pick up the front with a leveling kit?

Not a very good pic,but thats all I got. And my driveway is uneven so it looks lower than it really is.

With a 4x4, I would agree. With 2wd, I say get LOW!... Assuming it's not a heavy duty.

haha I had a 2 wheel drive like Montauk's when I was in high school. I shackled down the rear end, put a donut on top of the springs in the front then put a 3" body lift and 33" Buckshots. Then I put a programmer, throttle body spacer, K&N cold air intake system and one of those tornado things. That thing was FAST!!!! I miss that truck big time...

Yea I hear ya man. I'm all about picking a truck up. It's like a sticker I read on the rear glass of a truck once......

Lowriders are for guys that can't get it up! :p :*****:

Montauk17 09-29-2010 08:33 PM

I was thinking about lifting mine, but it burns enough fuel as it is.

It was the last thing that I had put on it so it was hard to tell. I doubt that it did anything but that's when I was all about "This is what I got on my truck". That's the whole reason I had 5 pairs of tweeters in my truck too, lol, just because.
