Anyone been to the Johnson Bayou rigs and fish for specks yet this year? Had some good luck the past couple of years.

May want to recheck that forecast. I think it will change with the low that formed this afternoon.

yeah, just checked forecast. It sure has changed in a few hours. Guess I'll stay inland tomorrow. Saturday will be my short rig day...

made it out to the short rigs today. Seas flat as glass! North wind obviously had a lot to do with that. However, the current was so strong, about 8-10 kts, that I could not get anchor to hold and my 101 troll motor could not keep up with it. Manged several pesky lady fish but not one trout. Got tired of fighting the current so headed back to the ship channel. Found one of my channel spots empty and manged to put 12 trout and 11 reds in the chest. Caught every sort of fish imaginable - croakers, channel mullet, some sort of perch, gaftop, sheephead, black drum, tons (about 30) rat reds. Only thing we did not catch was a flounder -- go figure. Great day, not many boats at all and water fairly nice. Jetty water was stained and gray. Tides about 1-2 foot above normal but tide began to go out around noon.

Did you see any oil out in the Gulf?

What direction was the current flowing? Hope it was not coming from the East!

Did not see any oil at all. Unfortunately the current was definately coming from the East! However that may be due to the tropical low system. I fish these rigs often and the current comes from the East most times.
