I have a 04 Yamaha 225 two-stroke. The last couple of times I went out fishing while running between 4000 & 4300 RPMs for a few miles and shut her down to an idle the alarm buzzer comes on. What do y'all think the problem is? I just had the water pump changed & I have good water pressure.

the alarm is usually over-heating....if water fine, what about oil?

Plenty of oil in the little tank on the motor & in the bulk tank. I'm clueless

Make sure the caps are tight on all oil tanks.

Like Ray said make sure all the caps are tight. It may be the oil sensor on the oil tank going out. If all of that checks out I would take the thermostats out and check for corrosion,trash,ect.

I was riding with a friend once and his yammy did the same thing, I told him he was running with the motor trimmed up too much we wasn't going fast, when it shut down he told me that wasn't it. we let it cool down and then trimmed the motor back down, never had that problem again. I would hope that wasn't your problem!

if running that high of rpm's and then shuting down are you trimed out?. If so you might be penching the oil hose when it gets trimed up so high. Just know of a couple of friends that had the same prop.

Steady horn is overheating , beep evey few seconds oil injection problem.Good Luck...

I know you said you had the water pump changed.....how long ago was that? It is possible you may have picked something up in the water clogging the water pickups on the lower unit.

I got my boat serviced 2 months ago he didnt change the water pump, he just changed the impellor. He did a hundred hour service on it.

My Mercury 150 is doing the same thing. I changed the impeller twice and both thermostats. I amgoing to change the poppet vavle next a hope that helps. I thought the thermostats did the trick but the alarm is still coming on.

What is a poppet valve?

Dont change it till you check it...........pot of water on stove and a thermometer.......make sure the thermos are bad before you change them...........and ALWAYS check the new ones the same way before you install them........

Not sure what the exact function of the valve is but it regulates the water flow in some way. Maybe someone else could chime in. When I posted my problem in the past it was suggested by a few people to change it. There is a Youtube video showing how to change the valve on my make and model and it seems easy enough.

I am also not familiar with a poppet valve. I don't think smaller engine have them. What size engines have a poppet valve.

I often run my 40 hp outboard in bayous that are clogged up with floating "trash" that plugs up the therostate. So I clean it out every couple of trips. A water hose and small brush will get it fairly clean. But it needs to be "boiled" to get it really clean. Boiling [this opens the valve] will remove a lot of small "stuff" that is blocking the opening.
