The Badlands...

It makes me so proud to see where Baton Rouge was named the 6th most dangerous city in the U.S. . I guess it's been no big secret as everyday on the local news we hear of a shooting here or a shooting there. Most of it involves drug trade/turf wars , but a lot of crime is 'spilling' over to other parts of the city. The good mayor disputes the data and the police cheif 'had no comment' on the latest figures. As before I will continue to 'keep my powder dry'....:smokin:

At one point I considered moving to that area, then I spent a weekend over there and changed my mind.

They musta smelled the country boy comin!:*****: I don't go there unless absolutely necessary. The traffic alone is enough to make you:headknocker::headknocker::headknocker::headkno cker::headknocker:!

BTW, if BR is number 6, where did N.O. fall out? I had heard recently that they slipped from their covetted number one slot. True?

Was born and raised in North Baton Rouge and went to Glen Oaks High. I lived in that area until 2000. Always had to have a chip on your shoulder to be able to live there. The crazier you seemed, the less the "Smurfs" would mess w/ you. Gunshots were common, fights were more common and the darker it got outside, the darker it would get. When the wino or crackhead asked me for money @ the Stop & Go I would say "get a job MoFo" and tell em I was callin my Sheriff buddy. They would usually just shut up and leave me alone. Most of em knew who I was and knew I really had a friend that was a sheriff's deputy. He was a handy friend to have as his grandfather lived right across the street from me and I would look out after him.

From my experience, The crime rate has been much worse in the North side than others, but it seems to have spread to the South side a little more from when I've gone back and visited. I'm sure some has been attributed to the Katrina "evacuees", also (here in the Houston area too).
The Blight is also something that I can't get over in some areas. Need to tear some of those rat traps and crack houses down. It definitely hurts the attractiveness for business opps.

Glen Oaks????? What year you graduate?

Baton Rouge has gotten alot worse since '05, gotten a lot "darker" since '05..... Just like any other city.....places you go & places you don't.

Zachary Boy.........Zachary has gotten a lot worse also. Lived there for 12 years......Where I was living during Katrina.... Baker seems to be moving North!

I too grew up in North Baton Rouge(Istrouma area). Used to ride our bikes for miles without fear of someone blowing your head off to steal your tennis shoes(Like it is now). I really feel sorry for the old people that worked their butts off to buy their home and are now stuck in those neighborhoods because they don't have the funds to get out of there. They literally have to 'board up 'the doors and windows after dark and dare not walk outside. If I had Bill Gates' money, I would buy 1000 acres and try to rescue these hardworking, honest people that live their lives in constant fear....And WT you are right about Baker. Going downhill fast...

GOHS Class of 1986. Been outta B.R. since '02. Most all my family still lives there and I visit there often. Most things there look the same to me.

Worked in Zachary @ ZHS for 10 years as a coach and teacher. Baker's been movin north for awhile and the Avenues are a fun place to visit, too.
