I grew up on shrimp and crab boats as a boy and teenager, I was promoted to master baiter within a few years.

When I started training dogs I immediately promoted myself to Master Trainer, because I train them to run "blinds".

Oh, you ask what do I mean by "blinds"? Long story....

Its just like being a fishing guide. A captain's license does not qualify a person to take money in exchange for a fishing trip. Its a matter of opinion as to whether someone is a good guide or a good trainer. There are trainers with amazing track records that I would not let pet my dog. Likewise, there are guides that can out fish most guides that I wouldn't give a penny to for a trip. The thing that qualifies a person to be a pro trainer is their ability to get people to pay them for their services and to come back and recommend that trainer to others because they are pleased with the outcome.

Its nothing like a fishing guide....We pay over $2000 and $250 a year there after for a Capt License which you have to have qualifications to get that license..

So NO its in NO way shape or form like a fishing guide what so ever

and having a Capt License " Does qualify for us to take people fishing for money"

It qualifies you to drive a boat safely with paying customers in it... doesn't mean you are a professional fisherman. In NO way shape or form does your license mean you are a good fisherman.

ducktrickster is right. its the same concept. Lots of good bull $h itters getting paid to train dogs and take people fishing...

Paying money and passing a boating test doesnt qualify anyone as a good fishing guide. Maybe a legal fishing guide, but not good.

There is no test that certifies if you can gauge water clarity, barometric pressure, wind speed, and all the other factors that effect fishing.

A dog trainer can do the same, get a LLC for his business and do his taxes. Boom.......Legal

He must rely on word of mouth and good reviews to keep a good client base though, just as a fishing guides do.

I follow you. Nothing really in the dog world to show proof besides the dogs you've trained, pics, ribbons, and referrals.

In short, there is no license or piece of paper that says you are a pro trainer. They rely on their record in sanctioned events or word of mouth.

Well, most pro-trainers give a résumé of "I've titled over 60 MH's" or "30 FC's and over 100 QAA" or something of that nature. But there's is no pro-trainer certification or anything of that sort.

your little guide pass has nothing to do with becoming a fishing guide. you just paid the extra $ to have that in your wallet and whip it out for times like this.. It is a pretty cool certificate you got there... where can i get one?
