Holy moly. That is a crazy story. I'm still stuck on the:
"a LDWF officer walked out on the wier and told them to come back through the wier to the lake and get their ticket. Tide was pulling hard from the marsh into the lake and when they approched the wier to exit the marsh the motor died and the current pulled them sideways pining them against the wier. the current was so strong it actually pulled the boat under the water" That is nuts! Glad they are okay. |

Same rule applies to many rules on the lake. If you go to beach and catch a limit of reds then decide to make a little run offshore past the state line and target bigger fish then come back in and get stopped and checked before you reach state waters then you will be ticketed for each red even though they were caught in legal waters- trust me they will still give you a ticket. Same applies to crabs and shrimp. You can have lots more outside the weirs, but the moment you cross the line going into the weirs you better not have in possesion more than is allowed behind the weirs. I know lots of people who have made this mistake and got everything taken from them even though crabs and shrimp were caught legally but when they were checked they were behind the weirs. As "W" stated, once they were back there after dark then everything in their possesion became illegal. |

It will fit but there is very little room for error....im sure the local fiberglass shops get plenty of work from it.

I take my kids to catch crabs back there in my 22ft NS. You will be fine. If the tide is REALLY high, I do have to take down my grab rail. Other than that, it is no prob. |

I was behind the weir once when the tide was rushing back into the lake. But here's what I did and it worked like a charm. I turned the boat around and faced back into the marsh and kept the throttle forward and worked it back and forth to hold my position against the current. I just slowly crept back to the opening and had buddies on the back deck to guide the rear into the bay and as the flow wanted to suck me out faster I just increased the throttle and trickled out the other side then let off the gas as I was out in the open. Worked like a charm. Don't know if its a good way or not but it worked for me. But that was 10 years ago and haven't been across the weir since. |
