I screwed up last night and got sloppy drunk and picked up a cigarette and then 2 and then 4 and then... I'm kickin myself pretty hard over it right now! That's really the only time that I even want one and still ignore it most of the time. Really though, it hasn't been that bad if you've got it on your mind to stop.

Thumbs up

Rob, I quit with the help of Chantix 16 months ago after 35 years of smoking and have never looked back. You just have to make your mind up that that's what you want to do. Best move I ever made and will never regret it. Good luck my friend and stay focused on quiting.

I thought we were going to be rewarded for our good ways?!

I put them down at the beginning of May. With the exception of a couple of times(alcohol induced) I haven't had any real desire to smoke. If you have a rough time on your own, try the Chantix. The stuff really does work!

good luck Rob..now is the time to do it with the prices shooting up so much....i quit almost 4 yrs ago...i used zyban(wellbutrin)..worked like a charm....took it for 2 weeks and was done... only thing that sucks is i gained 25lbs that wont come off!

biggest thing i can recommend is identify your "triggers" and then you can fight the urges better...or getting rid of those triggers would be even better...

Here is a little helpfull joke for you Rob....

A doctor on his morning walk, noticed an older lady with a crown sitting on her front step smoking a cigar, so he walked up to her and said, "I couldn't help but notice how happy you look! What is your secret?"
"I smoke ten cigars a day," she said. "Before I go to bed, I smoke a nice big joint. Apart from that, I drink a whole bottle of Jack Daniels every week, and eat only junk food. On weekends, I pop pills, get laid, and don't exercise at all."

"That is absolutely amazing! How old are you?"

"Thirty-four," she replied.

Guys, I can tell you this from experieince. I started smoking at 18 while a senior in high school. I went through college and working as a paramedic smoking, even getting up to two packs a day. My dad smoked and my grandfather smoked, so it was around me from a young age. I got remarried and my wife was on me to stop, but I continued to smoke, and I was one that smoked for several reasons: bored, stress, drinking, eating, but mainly because I enjoyed a cigarette. Then my kids went through DARE at school and started asking me to quit. That changed me forever!

Once the kids got through to me to stop, I made a choice and realized I needed to do it for them as much as me. I got on Chantix and after several weeks of dedication, I stopped taking the pills and doing all the stuff associated with the therapy. I have not smoked in almost 3 years.

I no longer have sinus problems, smokers cough, smelly clothes, are other things associated with smoking. It was the hardest thing I ever did, but I was able to make it and so can you! Rob/Dink, when it gets bad (and trust me, it will get bad), log on and BS on Saltycajun! We'll be here for you! Good luck!

I did put on a few pounds but, like Rob, I could stand to make about another 20 pounds.

I gave up Skoal in '91. That was one of the hardest thing I ever done.
I liked it, but was too cheap to pay $1.50/can. That is the main reason I quit.
Glad I did. Then I could spend more on beer.
