To be honest with you Billy, from what I've noticed about you is that you really care about your customers. You post pictures thru out the building process, tell them how it's going, etc. I personally don't have one of your rods, so I can't say how awesome they are. But from what i hear they are great rods.

thats about as long as a thing i can write (i'm not the best at this subject in school)

but bottom line is, seems your a great guy

Thumbs up

You are likely one of the most thorough people that I have ever come across when it comes to customer specifications. There is truly no "one size fits all" rod with you. For that matter, there isn't even a one size fits TWO in your eyes. That's something that most of us have forgotten about these days with super-corporations consuming our daily lives.

I also don't believe that I have ever met anyone that hussles more than you. You are constantly on the move when it comes to interaction with clients and potential clients. You even make a point to stop and shoot the breeze with those of us who are not customers and likely won't be. That is appreciated by those of us who don't have $200-$300 laying around for a new toy.

Lastly...
Thanks for not coming here and bashing other rod manufacturers! You are truly a professional. I can't stand when someone has to tear down someone elses product to make theirs look better or make themselves feel better. Thanks for hangin out with us and being a man of such high quality and standards.

Ok, well I guess i am just gonna write something, it cant hurt.

Since i already own a spiral stix from billy I can say that it is the best I have ever used, but again I havent really used high end poles, either. I like the way the whole process begins. Billy doesnt want you to email him, he wants to talk to you personally so he knows exactly what you want. The only problem I had in the ordering process, is that i didnt know what all options you have when ordering the stick. I missed out on getting titanium guides simply because I was not told about them when I ordered. I found out about the titanium guides after i had ordered mine, by reading other posts by Billy, but it was too late to get them by then. I definately would have got the upgraded guides if they would mentioned at the time. Let me assure you Billy, i am not upset at this. The rod you built for me is beautiful and works great. I get compliments on it everywhere I go with it. It is the smoothest casting and smoothest reeling, with a fish on the line pole I ever put my hands on. I also find that my arms dont get as tired from a full day of casting as I did before with my other poles.

I know you are all about customer service and it shows, but for the people who may not know a whole lot about the custom rod building process, you should try to upsale the hell out us and explain what each item can help out on. I know alot more about it now by reading you posts and now could tell you exactly what I want. I know if I'm spending money on something like this, I want the best and I will usually pay for the extras.

Overall great pole and great service

Thanks
John B.

OK Billy I'll give it a whirl.

Let me start off by saying that i've never met or talked with Billy before but I have lusted after the green viper since he posted it up a coupla days ago. So I can't talk much about his products .

I do however have an opinion I've formed over the last few months. Billy is probably the best sponsor a site could ever hope for. He not only advertises on the site but also posts up good information on rod building and such. I've learned quite a bit just following his threads. I've also built/repaired a few rods myself over the years and know what is involved in the process.

Billy is also a consistant salesman. Always looking for ways to get his product in front of a new customer base. His rod give aways and special pricing cant be beat. You wont find many sponsors giving what Billy has to a site like this. Talk is cheap its actions that count and I think Billys actions speak volumes.

Doesn't really matter to me about winning a rod here just wanted everyone to realise what a good thing ya'll got with Billy Stix ...SK

In the world of fishing there is no truer line than "you get what you pay for". I have been fishing since I was 5 years old so I have experience using many different types of equipment of varying prices. I have had a lot of junk over the years so I know what that stuff looks like and the way it fishes. I can say from what I have seen of Billystix Custom Rods, junk is the furthest thing from the truth. Billy uses the love and desire it takes to hand construct each and every rod that leaves his shop. Because of this dedication, Billy is willing to spend as much time as it takes to convince people of the quality of his products and his need to stand behind them. I will give my word in a time when a man's word is all he has that Billystix Custom Rods are worth every penny you pay for them.

When I ordered my camo rod from Billy, it was like I was talking to an old friend that I hadn't talked to in a while with the stories we were exchanging. Then when he said he would donate a rod to auction for a benefit I am involved with it went to a whole new level. Truly a one of a kind, down to earth kind of guy that will tell you exactly what to expect from him and his work.

SaltyCajun and BillyStix - the start of something great!

Default BillyStix Custom Rods

BillyStix Custom Fishing Rods,

My name is Jared Nixon. I first learned about you & your custom rods when I joined a internet message board by the name of SaltyCajun.com. I have been fishing all my life & I have learned over the years that as an angler I can increase my chances of catching fish by using quality products. I take pride in my fishing equipment & I choose my equipment very carefully. Sometimes the smallest of things can make the difference between the catch of a lifetime and a lifetime of thinking about the one that got away.

Many anglers will spend $400 on a quality fishing reel & put it on a $10 rod. Others will go for the high quality rod & use a low end reel. Amazingly there are anglers that will spend the money & buy both a quality rod & reel and then spool the reel they paid several hundred dollars for with a roll of $10 string that has been sitting in their tackle box for 5 years! The way I see it, if you want to consistantly catch fish you must go full circle with your choice of equipment.

As I previously stated; I learned this over the course of many years of fishing. I'm not ashamed to say that I was a loyal customer of the $20 rods for many years. I just couldn't understand why someone would spend $200 on a fishing rod. Well that all changed the first time a friend of mine let me cast one of his. I'll never forget the feel of that rod in my hand as I casted his lure into the water. I was able to easily cast twice as far using the same lure with his rod with half the effort & the accuracy was amazing. That day truly changed my life & my freezer has never looked the same either!

Over the years I have inquired about several custom built rods from custom rod builders like yourself. Most of the builders I found were on the internet & had online forms to fill out to get a quote on what you wanted. If I can simply click on a drop down menu to pick out predetermined features of a fishing rod off of a website, how exactly is that a custom built rod? It seems to me that those rods are more than likely mass produced & sold under the "custom built" feel good name. To me, custom built means "One of a kind". This rod is supposed to be custom built to my specifications, not the specs of some drop down menu on a website. What's custom about that? That is where you & your company stand apart from the competition. I sent you a message a few weeks ago concerning a custom built BillyStix rod for my wife. I fully expected a response similar to the responses of other custom builders in the past. Something like, "well that would be $250 + shipping. When do you need it?". The reply you sent me, for a lack of better words, blew me out of the water! You picked apart every specific detail of my inquiry & fully explained all of them in detail. Not only did you answer every question I had concerning the rod but you also put this @ the bottom of your reply:

Quote:
As you can see there are many things for you and i to discuss before the building of your wife's lovely new custom billystix, i will promise you this, when you give her the new custom billystix she will have a smile from ear to ear and most likley do a double flip this i promise, so take a minute and give me a call and lets talk,"lets do it right the first time "
looking forward to talking with you.
stix
To me, customer service means alot. I was really impressed that not only did you reply almost immediately to my message, but you also invited me to give you a call & discuss it all in greater detail. It's very easy to see why so many people on this site highly reccomend your rods to other members. I haven't even ordered my wifes new BillyStix rod yet & I'm already excited about having you build one for me too!

Thanks so much for putting the customer first in your business. I can't wait to do business with you. I already know that I won't be disapointed.

Sincerely,

Jared Nixon

Default Billy

Let me start of by saying this guy is first class.

I wanted to get a custom rod for my dad for our anual family trip to Grand Isle. So I talked with my brothers and we decided on a Billy Stix rod. So I called Billy up on the phone after talikng to a couple other rod builders and he was the only one that acted like he gave a crap about me and what i wanted. So I tell him I only have four weeks and he tells me no problem I can do and if I cant I will make it right. A couple weeks go by and a few more conversations with him and he is having trouble getiing my camo rod blank from his deailer so he goes out of his way and drives to a friends of his house that has one and gets it for me but tells me Jared I dont have time to do this rod right in this amount of time but this is what I am going to do I am going to send you another rod in the mail that I have built and still send you the first rod you ordered for ths same price. I was blew out the water by this and three days before I left I had the rod in my hand to bring with me and then a while later the other rod was at my house just like he said it would be. I was one of the first ones to get a rod on here from him they are awesome rods light throws like a dream and made out of quality material. All I can say is thanks a millon Billy

P.S Billy you sure your not from louisiana because you are a good old boy on the phone

I ordered a Stix rod for my brother in law who fishes in Grand Isle also.
So, there will be 2 Stix rods in Grand Isle this spring.
More than that when I go fishing there, I have one and another on the way.
Plus I am talking my wife into getting me a third Stix rod, the blue Viper for Christmas. Wish me luck...

Good luck with that man, I had to talk my wife into getting me the Browning jacket/bibs combo for Christmas. She thought I went crazy when I told her how much it would cost.

I just ordered my first BillyStix custom rod and am eagerly awaiting its arrival. Like most fishermen I buy most of my products due to word of mouth advertising. I have never even seen a spiral rod, except in pictures(and thought what is wrong with that rod), but I am now the proud owner of one due to the glowing reviews I have heard of Mr. Billy's handiwork. When people whose opinion you respect say things like smoothest, longest casting rod they own and they can't wait to get another one, that says a little something about the quality of the product.
After I talked to Mr. Billy I realized why every rod was such a quality piece of equipment. He really loves what he does and takes great pride in the craftsmanship of creating an individual rod. The price is also unbelievable for what you get. Think about it a custom built, hand made, one of a kind rod for the same price as a mid priced mass produced rod. He even threw in a free t-shirt and decal with my order. I can't wait to get my rod and tear some fish up in a couple of weeks.
