The beavertail BT3 is bar none the best poling, driest riding, most stable technical skiff I have been in. The boat handle a stiff 30 mph breeze in lake robin on Friday afternoon. The chop was substantial to say the least and I was able run cross sea and stay dry. I poled into a 20 mph east wind all day yesterday and I have never been less sore or tired. The boat tracks straight and spins on a dime. Will, the owner of Aeon Marine tells me that the inverted keels on the bottom of the boat make all the difference in the world. I can say that I am absolutely in love with this boat and I definitely made the right decision. I will add some pics of her in the water when I get them from Will.

I really like the motor. It is so quiet. I need to get a different prop. The one on it is a Power Tech 4 blade 17 pitch. Will is going to let me try two more props on it to get the right one (on his dime). I am going to try a 3 blade 15 next. I am hoping to get the mid to upper 30's with that. I couldn't turn more than 4600 rpm's with what's on it.

Looks like the motor is mounted all the way down? That could be part of the problem not getting enough rpm's. Prop shaft needs to be inside the tunnel when trimmed level, not below it. Really sweet boat man.

How hard is it to move the motor up? I would love to get the performance peaked out.

Not hard but you need a engine lift of some sort. If you can't get it done around your area bring it by my house on a weekend and we can knock it out quick. Is it mounted all the way down on the transom? If so it needs to come up for sure. If you can take a pic of the engine and back of the boat with the motor trimmed level.

Here is a pic of one with the engine mounted all the way up. To me it still looks a little low but you would have to run a hyd jackplate to go any higher. You can try different props till your blue in the face but you won't get the right performance if the motor is too low. Very important on a tunnel hull. Last edited by Montauk17; 03-13-2012 at 09:01 PM. |

This one looks like a different model than yours but the motor height looks right for the tunnel. |
